Where's my boost?

I have an 05 6.0 and I'm wondering about a boost issue. When I'm parked and I rev the motor up I don't build boost until I'm at over 3500 RPMs ill have maybe 10 pounds of boost, maybe. Usually less. However when I'm driving down the road it builds up boost fine. So when I'm stuck in sand and I'm trying to get out I'm not building boost to get out. I have to lock it in four wheel drive to move. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Where's my boost?

When you're parked you don't need boost and the PCM knows this. No boost is commanded via the VGT on the turbo. Most likely when you are stuck in the sand the rear wheels are spinning freely and little to now boost is needed to do this. Again no boost is commanded. Lock em in and the truck is back to work, boost is commanded and power is delivered.

Re: Where's my boost?

My 04 would build boost when I was parked so I was wondering. The tires in the sand don't spin at all but it's not a big deal. Usually when I'm out on the ROW I just throw it in 4 wheel to put less of a load in my transmission.

Also when it's in 4 wheel it doesn't get it to build boost when I'm stuck. I'm not blowing any colored smoke or anything.

Re: Where's my boost?

Just wondering could the fact that my EGR is deleted on my 05 change the fact that it won't build boost? My 04 wasn't deleted and it would build boost in park? Trucks running good and I'm not worried about it laying down in me. Just put in a 58V FICM cleaned the turbo cleaned out the EBP sensor and pipe. Was just gonna try and fix anything else if there was a real problem with it not building.

Had a really bad mechanic work on my truck and I'm just worried about everything right now. Goes to show you don't always get what you pay for because he was really expensive.

Re: Where's my boost?

When stuck it will take a bit to build boost, typically you will go forward all you can untill you can boost and really spin, at that time its already too late. I power brake to 10 to 20 psi then let off so you can shoot out of the hole, however in sand you do not want to spin, kick it in 4wd and ease out of it.
