Re: Just wanted to see what u guys thought about this article

i think it's a cummins
i wouldn't use the two at a time procedure on a 6.0 i would do 1 at a time and bring it to full torque and I would change them in the torque pattern sequence

then I would still feel like I half assed it but would be happy the TTY bolts were gone

Sounds like a good idea. One of my friends is Ford mechanic since 86. I'll run it by him.

But if the head or the block aren't good and flat it won't seal no matter how much you torque them.

I`ve Bullet Proofed 6 6.0 L`s and added ARP head studs. 2 I had to pull the heads as they were broken, other 4 I installed studs one at a time in order and torqued as I went. They have been in service for quite a while and NO problems. Bill Mad Macs Repair

Re: Just wanted to see what u guys thought about this article

I did it to mine. It's a huge PITA, and I do feel like it isn't as good of a job as it should have been. I just couldn't sink any more money into the project at the time. I think this is possible, but if I ever do another one I'll remove the heads.

That said, I haven't had any problems. Even did a couple 80 MPH uphill WOT pulls while towing my flat nose 7k trailer.

When replacing one fastener at a time I don't think torquing that one stud to its third stage torque is a good idea. Actually, I think it's a very bad one. I say this because when I removed some of the TTY bolts they were not adding much clamping force at all (broke free easily when removing). So if all of the TTY bolts are holding much less clamping force than they should be, installing one stud and torquing it to its final torque might cause problems. To do mine, I went in order, removed the bolt, installed the stud, and then torqued to its first stage, then moved onto the next one, etc. etc. When all studs were installed and torqued to their first stage, I went through the next two stages of torquing normally.
