Worth it

The time has come that the injectors needed to be changed on my truck. I am at a crossroads as to do it or get rid of the truck. I have 186k on the original injectors and I have been reading the average life of the 6.0L is 225k. The truck is a great truck and the only thing that needed to be changed while I have owned it is FICM (replaced with bulletproof), HPOP (while in there I had the bulletproof EGR cooler installed) and the turbo crapped out.

That being said, do I change the injectors or dump it?

If I keep it, do i go with factory injectors or aftermarket?

Re: Worth it

Yes I enjoy my truck, I just dont want to spend the money if the truck is only going to last another 35k miles.

As for the injectors, I have not had them checked yet (in the next coming weeks) but what I have read about poor performance and poor fuel mileage Im preparing for the worse case scenario.

Re: Worth it

I'll answer your second question. If you keep it use only Motorcraft injectors.

Re: Worth it

Just curious; where did you come up with the 225K mile number?

For bottom end? Top end?

Not saying I'm doubting you...but...it seems low for any properly maintained modern engine.

I could be wrong.

Ask my ex wife.

Re: Worth it

Could be right or wrong, we ran 3 6.0s to 200k (and 2 6.4 to 180k) and traded them, they were rough but i believe that little overhaul and they would be like new. My personal 6.0 has 199250

Re: Worth it

The number is just something I googled. This is why I created this post so I can get the real answer. As for maintaining it, the fluid/filters are change between 5k to 6k. Other then the poor performance and economy the truck run perfect.

Re: Worth it

well, i just dumped a crap load of $ into my truck over the last 10000 miles and i have 182,000 on it now.

If the truck is taken care of and fluids changed regularly i see no reason why it wont last.

A new truck will cost alot more than a set of injectors. And if you replace them use nothing but factory. If you have a BPD egr cooler than you are covered there. Has the truck been studded yet? That was my most recent big expense.

Re: Worth it

Unless the previous owner/business (fleet truck) studded it, no. The truck was maintained very well by both myself and the previous.

The truck been great and being my first diesel and reading the horror stories of the 6.0L I will have to say I have been fortunate to have this one.

Re: Worth it

Studs may be the future investment if all that other stuff is done (after injectors).

Is the truck tuned?
