Unhappy Cap Test?

First off, I've posted several questions here and the list has been awesome in guiding me to some answers. I really appreciate the help!

I'm still chasing another a coolant loss issue and ran across a "cap test" to help determine if the HG are blown and letting gasses into the bottle.

Just now at lunch, I let the truck get to temperature (as I pulled into O'Reilly's to build a pressure tester). As I left the store, I opened the hood and bled the pressure off of the bottle. It was still at temperature...about 190 on the ECT. I drove home about 1.5 miles, and the pressure had built up again.

I'm hoping not...but I don't think it's supposed to build up pressure again, right?

Re: Cap Test?

Off to build my gauge.

Thanks Zmann...I was wondering...it would seem like it would HAVE to build some pressure.

Re: Cap Test?

nothing fancy it's just like any closed cooling and that's why they say don't remove the cap hot

Re: Cap Test?

Should keep 4-6 psi at operating temp. It's the design of a pressurized system. Presure keeps the coolant from boiling.
