04' 6.0 running issues

New to the forum, would like to start off by saying hi.

I have a 04' 6.0 F-350 Harley Davidson, lately is had been hard to start when cold if it is not plugged in. The other issue it has is very random, sometimes it acts up another times it runs great.

A little history on the truck; last February I had an EGR delete done to it, head gaskets and studs, after market exhaust and SCT tuner. A couple years ago I had the FICM replaced and a few injectors this year, also.

The problem is; randomly while driving it has plenty of low end power. But when I go to accelerate, at about 2500 rpm it has nothing. Just stalls at 2500 rpm and won't do much of anything else. Then it might run great and a few minutes later stalls out again.

I purchased an auto enginuity scanner. I'll post pics of what the truck is doing. But at WOT my IPR goes to 85%. Not sure if my IPR valve is bad, HPOP is weak or I have a leak in the HP oil system. It starts fine every single time...

Any info would be much appreciated.

If that icp value in the last pic is at 2500 and the ipr is 85% yes you have a hpo leak. An air test is in order.
I'm on a tablet and cant see the pics well.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Hopefully it's a bad dummy plug or something. Not really wanting to replace the HPOP. I did a quick search on the net and they don't look very cheap

Re: 04' 6.0 running issues

My first guess since it's above 2500 it's a smallish leak until the pressure gets up enough to blow out. I'd almost think injector rail oring--off the top of my head but only easy way to know is to air test--that way you don't have to get into things more then you need to. If it is the hpop it's a crap shoot even on a reman oem. You'd be better off spending the money on a quality aftermarket one--that way you won't have to worry about it again.

It's just weird to me that it doesn't happen every time. It's very random.

Check your fuel pressure. If the engine is starving for fuel it will increase ICP pressure to higher than normal. Its the only thing it can do when fuel pressure is low.

check your MFDSD pid.

Sorry, it took so long to get back. I guess I didn't see an email about my thread.

I am not sure what month it was made, but I do know it is a latter 6.0 '04. It has the ICP valve upfront on the valve cover.

Also, does anyone know the size of the fitting for the ICP, do to a air test. I would much rather get the fitting here at work, than pay for it... lol

Will my AE tool read fuel pressure or do I need to use an actual gauge?
