HPOP....Is it normal?

Just needing advice.
I air tested my HPOP and oil rails from the "J" Tube on top of the HPOP. Heard air leaking from what seemed to be under the HPOP.
Took the HPOP out and plugged the bottom hole and pushed air through the top hole, where the "J" tube connected, and it blew oil from behind the gear that sits on the flywheel.
Is this normal or is the seal blown? Whats up here?
Replacement?

Re: HPOP....Is it normal?

Yes. She blew oil from there. And it didn't seem to me to be just a little bit.

Yea, I was going to say I've heard a little is ok. Just not sure what "a little" really amounts to.

Re: HPOP....Is it normal?

No start.
Couldn't get air test past the HPOP. Blowing out of the main shaft.
Been working on this thing for a year.

Re: HPOP....Is it normal?

Both. Last year I completed a head gasket/ARP stud install amongst other upgrades while I was in there. Truck ran like trash for about half a day and I ended up having to tow it home. Dug back in to try and find the problem. Then other things got in the way, financially. I finally got back to it this weekend and air tested through the "J" tube on top of the HPOP and heard a leak from behind. I pulled the HPOP and dead headed it with the bottom hole plugged and found, what I considered to be, a large amount of blow by coming from the main shaft seal. I am in the process of getting the funds to replace the HPOP but that's where I stand at the moment. I will try to plug the "J" tube this weekend and see if I cant find leaks elsewhere but Im thinking that the blow by in the HPOP is most likely where my issue lies.
Down side is that the truck has been sitting for a year. Im certain the coolant and oil need changed as well as the fuel being gelled by this point.
