Exhaust Leak???

About a week ago I started hearing a faint high pitched whistling coming from under the hood. Popped the top and sure enough I had a blown hot side boot. I replaced the hot side with a new pipe and boot and the loud high pitched whistle has come back with a vengeance! Not sure if it's at the y pipe. Haven't done anything with the turbo or exhaust so not sure what the deal is. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Exhaust Leak???

Could,be blown bellows in uppipes. Quite common for that to happen. Easy way to confirm to to feel all around the bellows and see if you come up,with soot on your hands. Cold engine obviously!

I'll give that a try. My hot pipe seems to keep trying to blow off at the turbo end too.

Re: Exhaust Leak???

Clean the inside of the boot well, same with the turbo. Spray a little hairspray inside the boot before reinstalling and let it dry good.

Re: Exhaust Leak???

I can't seem to find any leaks... weird thing is that the high pitched ringing isn't always a constant. Sometimes it seems to fluctuate with the turbo building boost and other times its there with no boost. I'm not seeing a lack of boost either.

Re: Exhaust Leak???

Now I'm wondering if i could have a possible oil feed line issue... decent amount of oil around the turbo and on top of the intake.

Re: Exhaust Leak???

Mine did the high pitch whistle at various times too. Check your up pipe bellows again. Mine started out as a small Crack that I couldn't find and eventually cracked all the way around and split in half before I realized where it came from

Re: Exhaust Leak???

I have used a piece of string on the end of a dowel to locate exhaust leaks. The leak will blow the string around.
