Stiction Fixxin

After much debate, I just did the injector spool valve polish/clean trick on my 2005 6.0 with 205XXX miles and woohoo! Runs 100% better!

The symptoms were pointing straight at injector stiction, would start and idle alright but driving it before the oil reached operating temp was a nightmare. Would buck and jump like crazy. This truck has had a steady diet of Rotella T6 also.

Probably the best six hours I have spent working on this truck, such an improvement.

Just wanted to share my success story in case anyone might have been on the fence about doing it. A few O-rings certainly beats the cost of new injectors!

Pulled all 8 injectors, removed the spool valves, cleaned/polished them up real quick with some 800 grit sand paper and WD-40. Re-installed with new O-rings and copper washers. There are tons of videos on youtube that show exactly what to do. Super simple.

You wouldn't happen to have before and after pictures of the spools, would you? I was going to do all of mine, but the first two I took apart showed absolutely no signs of varnish (on the spools), and they slid very smoothly through the bores. I didn't even take out the other six.

Re: Stiction Fixxin

Couple other things to remember, make sure you don't tighten the spool valve any more so that it still spins, but with resistance. People call me all the time with issues of the injector working great then starting to miss once hot. This is caused buy spool bolt being to tight. Second is the nut is a lock type bolt. I wheeze them a little to get them to lock on. Sometimes the nut will vibrate off if you don't.

How tight exactly. I just snugged the nut, about as tight as it felt when taking it off
