dash oil pressure gauge falling at idle

I have a 2005 F350 with 251K miles on it. I starting having this problem about a month ago while I was driving my gauge would fall then come right back up. I thought it might be something with my HPOP so I tore my motor apart and resealed my HPOP along with the STC upgrade. I checked my LPOP and it would fill my oil reservoir just fine heck it even started with the cap off and filter out. I do have a 58v FICM, studs, Edge tuner, Power max stage one turbo, spear co intercooler, and a coolant filter. That is all my mods FYI. I replaced the oil pressure sensor and still no fix. I recorded some information on starting and running.

Start times are between 1.81s to 2.5s

at 70mph my motor was at 20% load. My ICP was at 1345 psi.

at idle at a red light my motor was at 36% load and ICP at 635 psi.

at idle in park my motor was at 21% load and ICP was at 570 psi.

Honestly I am just trying to fix my dash gauge problem. It will rise when I take off and fall at idle. I don't have a hard start or anything just want my damn truck to stop dinging at me. For a short time fix i just have it unplugged. Does anyone know what might be my problem?

It might just be a bad sensor. The LPOP's are usually good, or bad. Not both. And if it fails, the engine won't run due to the HEUI system.

If you have access to an oil pressure gauge, I would remove the sender and install the gauge to see what the actual reading is. If the oil pressure isn't dropping at idle, maybe there is something wrong with the wiring harness or even the instrument cluster itself.

As stated earlier I would get a mechanical gauge and test the system first. After you get an accurate reading then go from there. One question, what oil filter are you running?

Re: dash oil pressure gauge falling at idle

The problem was the oil filter not fully pressing down the oil return valve inside the oil filter housing. Got a bad one from Walmart. It was motorcraft brand and one inch to short.
