my truck just died

On the way home from work this afternoon my truck just shut off coming down the road. It will turn over but will not start. There has been an odd rattling noise coming from the engine compartment for a couple of months. I had a couple of mechanics look/listen, but they did not have any idea. I don't know if this could be related to my sudden lack of mobility. Any ideas?

Re: my truck just died

check your ICP pressure to start. Also check codes and fuel pressure.

Re: my truck just died

Mechanic says I have blown seals in the HPO system. Recommends that I do the EGR delete and oil cooler replacement while we are working on the truck. This truck is stock and has been a very dependable vehicle. 2005 model with 130,000 miles. Thoughts?

Re: my truck just died

what seals? stand pipes and dummy plugs? Or STC fitting? Oil cooler and EGR delete are a good idea as well as all other HPO system updates.

Will it crank after you let it cool down?

Re: my truck just died

Mine is doing about the same. Runs fine until operating temp and then will stall at stops or when shifting from D to R and vice versa and shut itself down if I'm driving and have no throttle and it will hold the RPM down. When it shuts down it lights up the water in fuel and wait to start light. Have drained fuel filter and no water. Throws no codes. If it cools down it will run OK until it gets back to operating temp. Have had the mechanic run through all the sensors, wiggle wires, changed ebp and check ICP. Was leaking oil from ICP and have oil underneath. He's had it for the last few weeks going through it all. EGR delete has been done. Is this likely the HPOP seals?

Re: my truck just died

Dude you have like some morphed 6.0! A littl bit of every year!

03 motor means you wouldn't have the potential for the trouble spots in the HPOP system (STC, dummy plugs, standpipes, etc)

Re: my truck just died

Yeah it has been pieced together by the PO, mostly. I did buy an 05 Harley billet grille and 06 KR bumper that are just waiting to get put on. Got my eyes on a set of 08 KR 20" and waiting to pick up a set of 08 mirrors. I think of it as the best parts of each year.

So I can likely rule out the HPOP causing these intermittent stalls? The FICM was resoldered by the PO, an at home job, so could it be that? Along with possibly the sensor harness or ficm harness? I love the truck but it has been agonizing this last month without it and having no clue what is wrong with it! And my guy can't figure it out. He's competent as he was a Ford diesel foreman for 20+ years and retired. He has all the dealer equipment as far as scan tools. Just no codes to go off of. He just does it on the side. I have read and read with no luck. The threads are mostly old and dead ends with no resolutions.

Re: my truck just died

I'd like to see some HPO numbers personally. What is ICP and IPR doing, stuff like that. That'll tell you if it's HPOP related. But if he knows how to work on a 6.0 then surely he's watched that...
