Angry 2004 F350 Trans not shifting

Guys,
Drove home last night, parked the truck, no issues. Went to go to work this morning and the truck would not move in drive.

What is wierd is that I did not seem to have neutral. When I shifted into reverse the truck would back up. When I shifted into neutral the truck would also back up.

In drive it acted like neutral unless i gave it a large amount of throttle, then it would move slowly like the brake was on. I checked the emergency brake and rear and front brakes and found none sticking. It also moved easily in reverse so I don't think that is it.

It did not throw any codes and the tow/haul light did not come on flashing.

Anyone experience this? It is a 2004 F350 CCLB with SPD tune, 35" tires, and a 6" lift. I have studs, EGR delete, 4" exhaust, and a BDP external oil cooler.

I have not done anything to the truck recently.
Thanks for the help,
Sean

sounds like your low/reverse clutches are welded together somehow, or the reverse clutch piston is stuck on. Only way it would explain movement in neutral. Is the cable in tact and not stretched and adjusted properly?

the "binding" you feel is likely a tie up in the transmission. Its fighting itself which direction it wants to move the truck. Dont push on the throttle. Trans needs to come apart to see what the failure was IMO.

It could be a stuck solenoid E.

Re: 2004 F350 Trans not shifting

I tried the Torque app as well as the SCT X3 tuner and neither showed the code.

It is quite possible neither will show trans codes so I am not too worried. I did think that the tow/haul button would flash when a code was stored but it is possible that it will only do that when there is something catastrophic happening.

I have a new E solenoid and will install it this afternoon. I will update the thread with the results so good or bad all can learn from my adventure.

Thanks,
Sean

The tow/haul light will flash whenever a transmission code is stored.

Re: 2004 F350 Trans not shifting

Mark,
Changed the E solenoid and nothing. Dropped the pan again and took out the valve body and cleaned each solenoid. Still nothing.

Tried a different code reader, a Mac reader with Trans reading capability and still nothing.

No tow/haul flashing either.

I am stumped.

Thanks,
Sean
