2005 F350 6.0

First started this 4 days ago. I went to start the truck and it just cranked over. Tried it 4 times n no start. I got back 3 hours later cycled key crank no start. I decided to see if I could hear fuel pump. Turned key on n heard injectors n pump buzzing. Let glow plugs finish cycle n tried again n it fired up.
I decided to let it sit again n drove today. Started ran fine. Has several times since. Tonight after worked started truck n the battery light came on. I gave it a little throttle n the light went off. Driving home it came on again. I tested alternator n had 12.1 on post n the red wire in plug. Had 1.7 on the light green wire. Are these two issues related or is the truck telling me it wants a nap? When I listen for the pump it almost sounds like its pushing air bubbles. I am gonna take secondary fuel filter out n see if there is air coming out or fuel. Looking for some ideas on both problems. Thanks for reading n any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

It's could be a bad alternator, the ficm has to have a min. Of 10.5 volts to fire the injectors

Re: 2005 F350 6.0

That makes sense as to why it wouldn't fire. But shouldn't I have more than 1.7v on the green wire?

Re: 2005 F350 6.0

the alternator should be putting out 13+V to the batteries. the green wire you're talking about is on the plug going in to the alternator right?

Yes that's correct. The green wire is on the 2 wire plug going into alternator.

Re: 2005 F350 6.0

I was looking at truck again tonight and now the alternator is putting out 13.5 and there is 12 v on the green wire. I'm guessing that I have a bad connection or the instrument cluster is taking a crap. Any ideas? Guess I need to wait n see if/when alternator quits again.

Re: 2005 F350 6.0

Found out the alternator had a short internal. It finally acted up again. I did some checks sand found when I unplugged alternator that the green wire would jump up to 12v. Replaced alternator. Charging good tight now.
