electrical not wanting to stay running

2007 f250 stock. 2 months ago came out gym dead, had alternator checked said was good and the batteries were shot got 2 new ones. wife driving and lights started flickering and she pulled over and it died. was jumped and it ran for half mile then died, gave fuse code for trailer connect. I had it towed home replaced fuse got it started then died. this is my first diesel and I am lost. had 2 heads put on 6 months ago and a sensor. I need information cause I hate paying for others to do things that I can do. I am mechanically incline with gas. if I could get like a check list type thing would be great.

Re: electrical not wanting to stay running

Possible alternator issues present themselves the fastest when you are running with your headlights on. The batteries have one main purpose and that is to start the truck. after startup, the alternator charges the batteries to maintain voltage between 12volts-15volts.

Re: electrical not wanting to stay running

It was within 2 weeks from getting the 2 new batteries. I am going to check the alternator this weekend and change batteries around.

Yep, get the alternator checked again by somewhere different than last time. These days there is a growing number of "new" parts being bad right out of the box. Just because it's a new part doesn't mean you can rule it out.

Re: electrical not wanting to stay running

Good deal. Glad you figured it out.

Might want to check your FICM voltages now just to be on the safe side since you were running with a weak charging system.
