blown intercooler hose on hot side

So I found the elbow coming off the turbo had an 1 1/2" split in it. Bet that was where exhaust smell was coming from? Anyhow I noticed that there was a small amount of oil in the boots and pipe when I took them off. Is this a sign of a pending major fix? Should I start checking into how often I can donate blood to make cash quick or is it normal wear and tear. Motor has 175k now on it.

Oil is normal - it is from the ccv system.

oil softens the boots and they eventually split - also normal.

my hotside boots weep a little oil as they always have I have 100k on them I should get some new ones
my 03 cold side metal pipe replacement for the 06 plastic pipe came with new boots so that side is done

Re: blown intercooler hose on hot side

Thanks guys! Was worried turbo was leaking. Going to get the lower boot ordered too. It was a bit soft feeling when I took everything apart to inspect and clean.

Re: blown intercooler hose on hot side

No exhaust smell should have come from that. They are on the intake/air side of the turbo.

Exhaust smell under the hood sounds to me like a possible leaking uppipe.

Will have to keep chasing that exhaust smell. Was able to get a new boot from Gates through work this morning.
