my 03 has been sitting for almost 2yrs and ive finally decided to fix'er up. i know it needs HGs for sure and an oil cooler as well as some injectors. so, im going to upgrade it while im in there too. here's some of my progress so far.
yeah, she's comin back and better than ever. going to take a while unless i can get a better/more consistent job. it will be nice if i can find a decent secondary for a set of twins too.
no progress as of right now. work and softball have been taking all my time and kicking my ass.
Is that not a good thing? Not the same as a cummins? Are studs and stock gaskets good to go?
What about porting the head?
Also, what's up with coolant circulation lines? The ones that have to be drilled into the back of the heads? I can get the lines for free so ill make them myself if its worth doing.
Unless you have a money tree, I wouldn't port the heads...
Save up for the next set of non cracked heads you will prolly need in a year or two.
Shawn, and a very few others are up past 1000hp, and they don't have o-ringed heads...again, save up for something else.
I have a hook up at a local engine builder and can probably get the heads ported for pretty cheap. If is worth it for spool up and overall performance I will do it.
Is a body lift a possibly good idea for more room for twins? Can I run the primary up front where the passenger battery is like how its done on a dmax? Will the dp be able to go out the fender well?
why did this thread get moved? i think of this as a project and thats why i started the thread there. i guess since im going to put way more into then i thought it could be a performance build but this if going to be a long and way to expensive build.
From what i've seen theyre just not as reliable as the OEM one. Like stated Shawn and many other are making BIG HP numbers with the factory unit and holds up just fine.
There isn't really a way to test the pump out of the truck. How many miles are on it? Did the truck run at all before you tore it apart? If its under 200k and it was running then just reuse it IMO.
