Like it says guts didn't want to do two different threads so figured I would ask both at one time. So I have a 04 superduty the one row hook is starting to rust want to take off and put on new ones. Any help on how they come apart would be great. I also want to smoke my mirror light covers but do not know how they come off and don't want to break them. So any help with that would be great to. Thanks for any input or help.
On the mirrors i believe you have to turn them to the innermost position and there is a little latch behind the mirror that you can undo with a small screwdriver.
easiest to pull the front bumper off, if your truck is a leaf spring truck you won't be able to get the third bolt out from the bottom on the tow hooks...at least in my experience!
Really darn i didn't want to pull the bumper off.... but i guess its going to come off because cant have rust showing on my truck. Thanks for the heads up.
Good. A lot of people on here would have responded with "No, but I just borrowed my neighbors cutting rig and now my hairs on fire and the fire dept is having a hell of a time extinguishing my truck and attached garage........."
Lmao LOL yea i hear ya on that. But being away at school limits my choices of equipment. An i wouldnt use one unless i really needed to. But would have the garden hose ready to use just in case. lol
The bumper is easy to pull off and replace. It's only 4 bolts on the front and then the 2 in the wheel wells. You can do it by your self. You have to remove it to get to the 3 bolts attaching the tow hooks. The bolts will have thread locker on them so the first time you remove the tow hooks it will be a little tough but they will come off.
ok maybe if its not to cool out i will try to do that this weekend. But yea its going to be a pain having to do with hand tools since the bumper has never been off. But i guess it will be worth it in the end. Thanks for the help.
I was going to say If you don't want chrome hooks then don't pull them off. Sand them down a little, tap off all around yr bumper and paint them. Be done with it, my truck didn't come with tow hook but I pulled some from a salvage yard they were starting to rust a little and I just
painted them before I installed them
Start with a low grit 100 - 200 ish to remove the old paint, it would be a lot easier to remove them and use a wire wheel on a pedestal grinder. Then use a high grit 600-800 ish to smooth them up for primer.
Yea i think it would be a lot easier to take them off and do it that way. But will see im still trying to get the mirror lights off with out breaking the clip. Its the top clip that you push down right ? I push it just doesnt seemto doany thing.....
