Here's my delima
I have 4.88 gears on 35 inch tires with a 6.5 inch lift
should I re-gear (4.11's) and put some 37" tires on or
should I lift It another 4 inches and throw some 40" tires on.
what all would I need to change to go up another 4" ??
what would the cheeper route be? Thanks in advance
Thanks
i would much rather keep my axles . I know where they have been . What king of MPG difference would I be looking at between the two setups? What all would be needed to go up another. 4" shocks (maybe a shackle Lift ) what else would I need steering ,drive shaft ect... thanks
Go spring! you would need a lot of shackle to get 4". Shocks, 10" of lift you may want to consider a high rise steering spindle, transfer case index ring to keep 4x4 happy. Longer trac bar, longer steering draglink, u bolts, possible driveshaft. Your gears would be great maybe overkill. I run 46's with my 4:88s milage is a little over 10, has better power then I ever had even with stock gears & tires.
See the high steering spindle. You want the trac bar & the steering drag likn to run parallel. that will reduce bump steer & death wobble.
Oh ya haha first time I heard that one  Maybe you should go back to turbo school & keep an open mind there, Oh & good luck with that 600 RWHP quest. Ill sent u a sticker that says "bought not built"
what good is a truck with anything over 35's? Seems pretty pointless if you have to use a ladder to get in the bed to load it up, sure as hell cant pull a gooseneck or a fifth wheel with 40's!
he has 4.88's. he doesnt want to get rid of them cause he knows where they have been since he bought the truck. like i said sell your axles to someone who wants a big lifted truck and get some different gears. also 35's look just right, not too bgg or small.
or get a gear vendors overdrive, and rock 35's with 4.88'soke:
Ill trade U & pay the shipping for your 4:88's I have a perfect set of 3:73's. I ran 3:73's with 37's for years had good luck, no trans problems & good fuel milage. Just a thought for ya.
Swap to 3.73's, slap some 33s on it, and drive a useful, functional truck that gets decent mileage in the $5/ gallon world we now live in. It isn't 2002 anymore.
Thanks gtokiller for your offer but I don't want to go back to 3.73's 4.10 at the least I like my lifted truck probably never go back to stock. I've thought about a gear vender do they make a 4x4 version?? Thanks
Nothing wrong with 3.73 and 35s just think 4.10s would be a but easier on the ol tranny with 37" tires. I've been looking and what do y'all think about 4" hangers for the front and ouo traction blocks for the rear? Since I already have a 6.5" deaver lift this would make it a 10.5" lift correct? Will the rear drive shaft have to be extended with that setup and will the front have to be as well. What will have to be done to the steering??? Im not setup. For any Fab work right now so everything will need to be a bolt on. I would like to keep this project under $4000 including tires does this sound doable? ? Thank you do they make a gear vendor for a auto 4x4 ???
