What is wrong with the drivers nowadays?? You can't get any of them on the radio, no bear reports, traffic reports etcetera. I have literally drove 400 miles, passed hundreds of trucks and not one person on the radio. Also, if you pass them, there is no holler on the radio to bring it over, no interrupt of the lights at night...if they are feeling overly kind, they will high beam you, but that seems like all they'll do.
Also, it seems as if theyve gotten dumber. I came through dfw yesterday, and it was ni**** this, and bitch that, eff you stupid etc. WTF has taken over the trucking gene pool??? Let's not count the guys doing 45 down the interstate either. I was behind a guy on a 2 lane night before last, and this guy had a load of cotton on his flatbed, and lots of the hills, he was down into the 30 mph range; flat land, 50 was pushing it. Speed limit was 65, I pull 100,000 over those hills and never drop below 50 mph, and that's if I screwed up!
I'm definitely worried about the future of this industry.
I hardly ever use my cb any more, I cant stand all the b.s so I just turn it off. As far as flashing the lights when im clear, thats why I have mirrors, I dont need someone to tell me when im clear when I can see for myself if I am or not. Not trying to sound like a dik, im just giving you my side of it
Well we have CB's in all our truck, but I have not even picked up the mic since the end of last summer. I have "big" radio's in our trucks, so we can talk truck to truck, got one in the shop and most of the guys have them in there POV. Summer time I use the cb a lot as the asphalt plat uses cb to communicate with the trucks. O/O's will usually talk, but you would be surprised how many "fleet" trucks that have antenna's but no radio inside.
That's one of the big ones I've noticed. Pretty much all the flatbed, van, and reefer guys don't talk at all. I haul a grain wagon, and the hopper guys all are friendly and talk to other grain trucks. You also get alot of owner ops who will mingle also. Alot of guys will yell out on a smaller radio, and not get a reply, a big connex yells out, and you'll pick up another big radio further out. They usually sound too roboty, or something to understand so you may as well have not even talked to them.
I agree I don't need the courtesy flash but I do appreciate it when I get it and it makes you think there are still some decent people out there! As far as the guy only doin 45 mph he was probably a "fleet driver" that they hired of the street with no experience and doesn't know how to down shift! :evil Sorry I get tired of these idiot steering wheel holders!
I'm with ya on the flash thing. Unless he hits me for more than a second on high, I'm fine with it.
The cottonkid there sounds more like he was either scared, or didn't know how to drive. Did it look like a farm truck?
I got you guys about the radios as well. It's just me likely, but mine is rarely off, unless I'm somewhere like West Memphis/Memphis. If those things are used correctly, they could save the bacon. Last winter, when MD and WV didn't clear I81, an O/O in skateboard, myself, and another O/O in a dry van picked up each other just south of Harrisburg, and drove down to Va together. Beside the pointe, but there were some real dumbasses out there with us, of course they didn't use anything but a cell phone glued to their ear.
It was nice riding like that with a couple other guys like myself, and crap, the dryvan guy was from Brooklyn!LOL The three of us stopped together down at Tom's Brook, just like the olden days.
It probably sounded rather humourous. A hillbilly in a skateboard, a Brooklyn guy, and a northern kid. There really wasn't much of a language barrier though. LOL
my C.B. hasnt been used in months as well as all ya'll cuz theres sooo many people n*gger this and n*gger that. im done until people go back to how C.B's used to be used
I used to have a radio in my truck, but it was seldom on.....mainly because of all the ####tards going back and forth. You can only listen to two retards fighting for so long before youve had enough.
Unfortunately, Ive seen more and more wheel holders every year. I couldnt even count how many times I had straight truck drivers tell me "wow you can back this up on the hook better than I can in it!" when banging a dock to offload their truck and then tow it to the shop. Nevermind when Id hit a dock with a TT unit on the hook.
Drivers not using their flashers and not on/off when it's clear to pass is really aggravating. The loss of common courtesy has gone down the tubes, not just on the road but in general as well. I am fairly new to the trucking industry but common courtesy is nothing new. It makes all of our time out on the road a lot easier and the time go buy faster when we treat each other with respect. How difficult is it to say thanks with your flashers or pick up the mike and inform other guys what the scales or the cops are doing ???
Jason, let me know if you find any good deals. I am looking at "improving" my radio set up, I would like to be able to reach out and talk a little further. It would be easier than texting you while changing lanes, messing with the cb and eating a sammich :hehe:
Same here north of the boarder, seems fleet drivers are more after driving their hours, sleeping, and collecting their pay cheque. The days of real truckers are a thing of the past.
Likely for the most part, it is the fleet drivers, but not all of them. A guy might be driving for one of the big ones due to circumstances. I've been around O/O's I wouldn't pay a dime a mile, and some company drivers that I'd pay double what their getting.
Much of it does reflect on experience, and the willingness to admit you don't know everything.
Could it just be the society we have today? The newer, and I don't mean younger, have been where it seems, "Screw thy neighbour" is the order of the day, and it's just carried over to a truck. Let's face it, we ARE a bit different, and if you think about it, isolated from the rest, not necessarily a bad thing.
Not tooting my horn, but I've yapped for miles with guys, and until I told them what truck I was in, they had no clue I was in a fleet truck.
I won't defend the big fleets, you just can't judge a driver by the colour of truck or the name on the door. Though sometimes the stereotype does fit!LOL
yeah nobody works anything out anymore its right to the police or lawyers first....
