Well since i have to have a new short block in my truck after busting a piston on monday, imto trying decide if i want to do a cummins conversion in my 09, does anyone know of good companies that have done any of these?
Thanks Ashton
6.4 are nice and make great power but i cant work on them and i have no more warranty after this incident ,so why not do something that is reliable, im not looking to do crazy hp numbers im looking for something that i can work on and that is reliable
There are a few out there... If you do decide to go with a cummins, I'd go with a CR. GOS performance, Truck Toyz, Beans, and a few others have all done CR swaps into the fords with very few issues. The 6.4's are great, but its hard to beat an inline 6.
Totally agree. I'm doing my own cummins convo and wouldn't think twice to go to beans. They are top notch. If you are really serious about a convo call bean. He will give a alot of great info and will even walk you thru the process.
One thing we should probably ask is what are your goals for this truck?
If you want a 500hp DD or tow rig a 6.4 would be must cheaper. A 6.4 with studs egr delete and maybe a turbo upgrade would make quite the DD. I love my 6.4 other than the terrible mileage. But I'm cursed with 4.88 gears.
Why not get a new short block, and do something similar to what BigR has done with Godzilla? it seems like you could be into something like that for around 10-11k
so what actually caused all this? seems like a cummins conversion would be more expensive than fixing your 6.4. but i guess it all depends on how much power you want out of the cummins.
Yes it's getting a CR and Ashton liked the sound of the 4R100, both beefed up in house of course!
