i wanna get rid of the fx4 stickers but i dont want to jack up my paint. what is the best way to remove them without scratching or hurting the paint. also after removing them do i need to do anything as far as waxing to protect the paint thats under the sticker.
thanks,
john
:whs: No gun just 70 degrees and my pointer finger. obviously wax will blend the paint colors and protect it. I had a nice ring on my paint from sun fade and wax, not anymore thanks to wax and a different sticker!
Heat gun or hair dryer. Living in Las Vegas mine pulled off just from being in the sun. I did a very mild compound for any extra residue and then wax. Did it after a few days of owning it.
I didn't do anything to mine. I don't even think I washed it for like 2 weeks afterwards. Can't even tell I had a sticker there. I owned the truck for almost 2 1/2 years before removing them
Probably don't need to do anything to it, but I could feel some tackiness only around the outside edges of were the sticker used to be. So that is why I did what I did. Mine could have just been dealer prep polish to help make it shine. Looks 100% better without that sticker too!
Heat gun or you can buy a 'rubber wheel' that you use with a cordless drill to remove decals that you can buy at most auto parts store for 10 bucks. Most body shops use them for peeling off decals or two sided tape from trim molding. Doesn't affect the paint.
I literally just walked outside and did this with a hair dryer in 50* weather. Just pull slowly. Only thing I can see its a little blacker where the stickers were but its just from very thin scratches around the sticker and very clean where the sticker was.
I am replacing the decal so I am going to leave it, put my new decals on, then wax and it should be ok!
I just went to the car wash, got close with the hot water, and peeled them rite off. I also used Go-Gone after to get rid of any glue that might be left.
