My trans is going out on my e99. My buddy has a tranny shop and he said if i bought the parts he'd rebuild it for me. Is the racer x rebuild kit a good kit? Or should i look elsewhere? I would also buy their pump and triple disc converter. Anyone have any suggestions?
When i did my tranny ed0d rebuild, I used their parts... clutches, triple disc hughes, shift kit. I basicallly replaced all wearable parts... totaled 1600$ or so. 2 years , so far so good.. knock on wood!
Give bill at racerx a call. Great guy to deal with and will help you out with a kit to meet your needs. He built mine almost two years ago now and it has been great. And if you compare his prices to others-especially convertors- they can't be beat. also guys like him and John woods brian with bts make and machine alot of their own parts so I would contact them before I went off the shelf parts. Depends on what your goals are though
Make sure and get the selective snap ring kit. When we checked clutch pack clearance on mine they were off. We ended up machining my stock plates down to get the right clearance, but it can be done with snap rings too.
:whs: I had one clutch pack on an E4, the intermediate I believe that I could not get enough clearance on with the increased count and had to machine the feet on the piston but they do have different snap rings for that scenario and I have used those too on 4R's. More than one way to skin it.
I've been real pleased with my Racer X parts. I rebuilt my trans and its been holding up great. Not sure if Bill is still at Racer X...if he is, he does not go by Bill anymore??
