I have 2 12in JL subs in my regular cab so I'm limited on space. I have foam in both of them, but I'm wonderig if I take the foam out and cut 2 2in holes in the top of the box will make them hit harder. Any opinions?
You cant just cut holes and expect it to hit harder. A ported box has to be much larger than a sealed. And ports have to extend inside the box (so far) depending on the frequency its tuned too.
+1, There's a science to porting a sub enclosure. Check out the port calculator on the 12volt.com. It'll at least get you aimed in the right direction.
I had 3 12's in a truck box and all I did was hole saw a 3 1/2 inch hole and omg made it hit harder. But you will have to tune the amp bc it'll sound so much cleaner. The foam doesn't matter.
