Im about to make my oil filter bypass. I have a pre pump kit that i took off my truck not long ago from itp/sinister/strickly diesel (damn Dennis needs to pick a name and stick with it) LOL. Anyway Could i use that filter base for my oil bypass kit? I know a filter base is only about 30 bucks , but i already have a bracket and everything for this filter head. This is the kit i have.
So i did some research , the filter base i have is a Baldwin FB1311 ... all the descriptions i can find on them say its a fuel filter base ...... So nobody knows if this would work for oil?
If' that's the ITP/whatever his new name is pre-pump fuel filter and base, then it will have the 1"-14 threads for the filter. This is typically a fuel filter thread, not an oil or coolant thread.
If you want an oil filter base, go over to fleetfilter.com, the filter bases link and pick out a base with the 3/4"-16 thread. You should be able to order it from Napa as well, although you may have to educate the Napa guy on what a base is.....
Then go to ebay and find the guy that makes the Amsoil threaded insert for this base (I forget what the Amsoil thread is, but it's something weird. Then you can replace the 3/4"-16 threaded insert with the Amsoil and use the Amsoil EaP-90/100/110 bypass oil filters.
Bases are about $25 or so, the Amsoil threaded insert, last time I saw it, was about $30 or so, IRC.
Or you can bypass all that (sorry for the pun) and buy the base direct from Amsoil, it's about $50 or so last time I looked.

ETA: If you don't want to use Amsoil, then Baldwin has a filter base with another threaded insert. Don't recall the filter number of base number but the filter doesn't filter as well as the Amsoil bypass filter.
I run the LF777 on a generic base. I just went to the local truck shop and told them I wanted a base that fits the LF777. Think it was about $24 and it has the restrictor built in. Then I made this bracket....
Great thing is that once you have a base that fits the LF777, you can also use the Baldwin B7577(pictured above), and many other standard off the shelf big rig bypass filters.
Yeah, but is there an issue with mounting it sideways? If not... I might just be changing a certain setup. Only negative I can see if not being able to fill the filter before install.

Yeah on that one you don't want a side ways filter but that is not a closed system....something goes boom at the end. But a pressurized oil/lube system is fine. Heck on some old tractors they are upside down.
I don't have a problem with it horizontal. I have been running this setup since 2002.
I usually put some oil in the filter before screwing it onto the base, maybe a quart, and then once the engine is started, it fills by itself. Once the filter is all warm, I am pretty sure it is full.
And it is the OB1308 base I have. Price has gone up on it since I got mine....
I have no idea. I had two samples done on the old motor in 2003 or so and Blackstone said to run the oil to 10k. I was changing it every 5k and figured I didn't need to sample it that often. Well, it wasn't oil that took out the old motor, it was cavitation at 167k. Thats what I get for thinking Evans was "lifetime".... Bearings and crank looked like new....
Anyway....
Only have 2k miles on the fresh motor and will be sending in a new sample soon.
Mine towed the racecar 50 miles each way every Saturday to the local dirt track, then took me to work every day, then from Seattle to Chicago to Ohio to San Diego and back home several times towing the 5er.
I sold the racecar, so now it just takes my fat ass to work.
Lol. I was wondering since I am looking at putting that set up on my truck that spends a lot of time pulling a 44' enclosed gooseneck hauling cars and motorcycles.
The cleaner you can keep the oil, the longer it will last and the longer the engine will last. Simple as that. Some like the FS2000, others the Lubrifiner, I like the simplicity of a bypass filter that I can get at any truck stop and has proven itself on my rig.
Oh, and I just cut open the engine filter off my fresh rebuild(Fleetguard 7039) and its clean. No metal in it. I like Fleetguard filters. And Baldwin. I think they are worth it.
Oil to the bypass filter from the 1/8" npt plug in the oil cooler/filter housing(next to the heater) and return to the sump through the 3/4" npt plug in the block just behind the heater/filter.
For those that are running an oil pressure gage in the above port, you are measuring preregulator pressure. For post regulator oil pressure, use the 1/8" npt plug at the bellhousing mount, just toward the trans from the above locations.
You sure its 3/4 ? I read in another thread it was 3/8 ..... just want to make sure before i get under there to install this and have the wrong fittings .....
Yup, and it wouldn't hurt to have a 3/8npt to 4 just to be safe....
