I have a chance to get a bullydog programmer that was updated in december for 250 bucks. I know i need a sct but i dont want to spend that much right now... i just want (for now) some better fuel mileage and a little performance.

I'm torn... supposed to meet the guy and plug it up to make sure it works in 30 minutes

Knowing that its awefully tempting to turn up the levels... I would say no... save your money for the sct, h&s, or spartan.... Its too much money to risk via tearing up your truck... and honestly I couldn't resell that to another person knowing what it can do.... do a search on here and it will help you make your decision

This isn't a 6.4 here.... SCT or bust.

My buddy ran a triple dog from bullydog in his 04 6.0. If he turned the power up the transmission didn't know what to do, it would rev up high, slam a gear, RPM's would fall on their face, then it would scream up and bang again, all the while the truck wouldn't really be accelerating forward. It HATED that programmer. He could only run it on a LOW power level. I ended up talking him into a used SCT X-cal2 which he bought from here for like $150 used, then got 2 tunes to try out. He spent about what you're going to spend and got a better product.

Save yourself the headache and just save your money for the SCT, or go ahead and spend 250 on the POS bullydog, then risk losing a tranny for a few injectors. Then you can shell out big money to get all that fixed, and end up in the same boat you are now.

IMO, I don't think BD is as bad as some ppl are making it out to be. I have a Triple Dog on my work truck (06 6.0), I leave it on extreme. Installed the dog at about 30k, truck has 92k on it.

H3ll if the price is right and you can't afford the custom tunes, then go for it. But again, that's just my .02.

Getting a used SCT and custom tunes is probably going to cost him exactly the same though...

SCT man...you will be 10 times happier and so will your truck! I had a bully dog pmt and ias soon a i started noticing tranny issues (6 months later) i took that POS off! and you wont get any milage from it either.

i used to have a bully dog in my truck and i was happy with it. it was able to change power levels on the fly, it never caused any issues in my truck. and i drive the sh!t out of it. the bully dog never caused me an issue. when i get my next 6.0l i am putting it in the next one.

the only reason i went away from the bully dog is i did a cam, injectors, and a non vgt turbo. so i needed custom tunes.

if i was you i would buy it. my .02

i got my sct on ebay for 110 shipped. that would leave alot of tuning money on the table. remember with the sct you are interested in the xcal 2, xcal 3 or live wire. the only real specifications is to be unlocked and for a ford product. meaning if it came out of a focus, f150, mustang escort, maurader, lincon etc it will work. so when you start searching thru various channels it will be alot more likely that some one specifies it fits just one car they are clueless and you can score a deal.

Go with the SCT , dont put your trucks health or your life if your truck has a mishap with the bully dog. Rather be safe then sorry that's how i play.

Ha Ha HA LOL..... if you run that Bully Dog you could DIE! LOL

:poke:

ok I didnt know that the an sct from any ford vehicle will work... thats badazz. I did go hook up the bully dog and ran it. I liked it and my truck shifted fine... I only had it on the performance level... i would never put anything like that, that wasnt custom on xteme in my truck.

Ok im a flucking IDIOT! I went ahead and got it because i ended up gettin it for 200. Only put it in performance mode not extreme, did the transmision learning process, all was fine! It actually shifted better with the tuner, then about 30 minutes ago the truck shifted on its own to neutral while driving. Pulled over and unloaded the tuner and loaded stock tuning back up immediately. Now im stuck with this POS just like all of you said. 200 bucks down the drain, I wouldnt even give this thing to someone driving a powerstroke.

put it on e-bay!

:D

Honestly id stay away from ebay...ive heard too many horror stories of guys getting scts that turn out to be locked, then you gotta spend 150 plus to get it unlocked by sct. Id just hit up a site sponsor and go through them, that wany you WILL NOT get burnt and mave more money go down the drain
Agreed, I almost bidded on an X2 couple days that basically had the description of the SCT off their website. I contacted the seller and she was clueless. Said that they sold the mustang, and she was told all you had to do if it was locked was to call SCT and give them your VIN. The auction just ended and somebody payed $132 for a locked X2

i would look for one on ebay. make sure it says unlocked or ready to use. as a side not the xcal 2 is typically cheaper due to the fact that it is the older model. if it does come up locked on the x2 there is a way to get it unlocked with out going thru sct though
How?

Im gonna try to sell the bullydog on ebay... and im really wantin to try vivians tunes from quick tricks...
What is your strategy? If it is in the same family of strategies as mine I could sell you my other SCT that has all my custom tunes on it. It has over $200 worth of tunes on it (Vivian's Looney Wild and Looney, and Eric's Xtreme Race and Xtreme Street). Since your's is an '04 you could run a lot of the same tunes as mine.

I'd sell you that SCT for $295 shipped, OBO.
