I've been recently debating on how high to go on my lift. I want 325's on a 35 and I'm really not sure a 2.5 will work. Second to that, and the reason I'm posting is this: I recently was told that all the leveling kits out are "junk" unless you use the drop down bracket otherwise the front axle will shift. Ultimatly causing the truck to "crab walk" when driving. I've seen this but was never sure where it came from... I want to make sure everything is right..and square etc... I was going to go with a TRUXX 2" but I've been told otherwise...HELP!! I don't want the front to shift???
It will shift your front axle, it really doesn't seem to hurt anything and lots of people run them that way. Drop bracket is one way, however that alters the angle of your trac bar from your drag link and can result in bump steer among other quirks. IMO stay far away from kits that space one side of the trac bar bracket down with shims, think there is only one company doing that now anyhow. Get an adjustable trac bar to center your axle if it bothers you, there are a few different ones out there now and it makes a world of difference. Forgot about the tire fitment, I have run 35's on both a leveling kit 2.5" and 4" lift, and had to pin my front fender wells back with both, no clearance issues other than that.
Is Truxx reputable? ...and do you have any suggestions on an adjustable track bar? Your imput is great, there are so many options and if you pick one, it almost limits what you can do later it seems...just trying to get the best bang for my buck! Which seems to be harder and harder to earn these days!
If quality is important, stick with Icon or RCD. I know both of there 2.5" or leveling kits use springs and include caster shims(lots of cheap kits don't). Then add an adjustable trac bar, Icon has one and a company called Pure performance offers them. On my 06 the original 4" lift I had on it used a drop bracket for the trac bar and no dropped pitman arm, and even though it altered the relationship to each other very little it handled like crap, and I had some very scary death wobble experiences. Once the bracket was off and adj. trac bar was on it was an amazing difference.
I looked up the Truxx kit, and it does not include caster shims, and you will never get your alignment correct. Get ahold of Truck Toyz, they will give you good advice, and I know there are a few employees who are members here. Where are you in NOVA?
Thanks...so frustrating trying to get the look and the performance...Icon is a bit too much I think...BDS looks to have the same kit.. I'll call Truck Toyz tomorrow. Ultimatily I wanna run ATZ 325/65R18's (35's) but I'm thinking all I'll get is 33's same width - 325/60R18's. Oddly, I'm running "stock" with 375/50R18's with no rubbing except when turning and hitting a significant bump...but straight turning while normal driving ---no rub... I'm in the Middleburg area..just west of Reston about 20mi. You from this area?
Cool...small world! Well, again thanks for the input. I've got tons of questions so, I'm sure it's not the last!
