EGR Delete - Pros/Cons What say you?

I know there are several threads on this but... I recently was in the "FORD" service department for an oil change. Since the pick-up is new to me, I asked that they give it a quick look-over while doing the oil change. Having looked it over extensivly myself along with others I was and am confident that it is solid. When the service manager came out he said "you have or will have a head gasket leak". Now, I immediatly said to myself !@#$.... I asked why he said this and he replide that there was a bit of residue on the overflow tank. I know I had some spray when I took the cap off a bit warm...so...other than that, no signs...no leaking, no overheating, no fluid level changes etc.... I'm very interested in the delete kit, but want to know if that's a good thing or bad???? AND, what kind seems to work best...the guy thats looking to install says I don't have bad gaskets but that the EGR is probably looking to go and he installs Sinister...I've read great things about Bulletproof too - any thoughts on brand??

Bullet Proof is a proven EGR cooler. There are a ton of people using them. With a lifetime warranty you can't go wrong. Make sure you replace your oil cooler while the truck is apart.

I guess that's the second part to all this...is it better to replace the "stock" failing system/cooler...or to go with a Delete kit.

Any way you look at it your oil cooler is probably bad. The EGR cooler is just the messenger. If you delete the messenger and don't take other precautions you'll end up with a bad engine do to extreme oil temps.

Re: EGR Delete - Pros/Cons What say you?

exactly, get something to monitor your Engine oil temps (EOT) and engine coolant temps (ECT)

At cruising highway speeds they should not have a delta greater than 15* or so...

If there is gap greater than 15* than its time to replace some parts. What parts?

- Oil cooler
- Delete the EGR
- Coolant Filter
- ELC coolant flush

The Ford gold coolant breaks down its silicates under high heat and creates a goo. This goo clogs up the oil cooler and blocks coolant flow. This blockage of coolant flow prevents the EGR cooler from getting coolant to cool the exhaust gasses. It therefore ruptures and allows coolant into the combustion chamber lifting the heads and popping head gaskets.

EGR delete is 100% better than upgrading the cooler to a Bullet Proof Diesel one.

ELC is silicate free and is what should be in these trucks from the start. A coolant filter catches castings sands from the block and further prevents the oil cooler from being clogged up.

i would do a EGR delete, coolant flush with CAT ELC (red), and install a coolant filter. after that youll be good to go

Re: EGR Delete - Pros/Cons What say you?

i agree with most in this thread...pros of doing mods like EGR delete, Coolant flush...coolant filter kit.....oil cooler rebuild: replacing these things is going to help prevent future problems ( i say prevent because regualar maintenance is still needed) through in a set of head gaskets, studs, and a tuner and you got yourself a sick ride......Cons: You will have to be ok with the fact that you will now have a reliable truck that will run strong for years/miles to come......
