my truck is a e99 and i put a new waterpump on it at 114,000 and now it has 175,00 on it. i started smelling coolant everyonce in a while as i would drive the truck but never any coolant under the truck. couldnt see anything when the truck was hot but when it sits and gets cold you could see a tiny bit of coolant on top of the pump under the thermostat housing so i got a new stat and housing from ford and still the same thing. so i pulled it apart again and put rtv on it and still the same thing. i dont think it is coming from the stat housing i am thinking the seal between pump and motor. anybody ever had this happen. it is not leaking out of the weep hole in the pump. can i just pull the pump off and reseal it. Thanks for any help Brad
This is jmtc but i took rtv and put it on my seal (keep in mind not excessively) and put my waterpumps back on all the trucks i have owned and never had problems. Good luck in finding your problem.
my pump was changed out at 126k...
put in a 203 tstat , reused old stuff. had a dribble.. turned out the old housing was a lil cruddy around house clamp area.. took off buffed. (was leaking at the hose clamp area)
added a lil grey rtv same oem housing went back fine.
then at 170k the oring on the lower intake ( big goose neck looking pipe on the right) of the waterpump let go.
hard to spot leak as it would get blown by the fan etc..
so I changed that out , more rtv grey around the edge of the flange, changed a few of the larger hoses all is good.
You might pull it and use some rtv sealant all the way around the water pump.. that's what I did when I replaced mine.. not excessive but a small bead all the way around the pump and gasket..
