I bought an 08 2wd supercab a few days ago. I am wondering what is the best way to lower it just an inch or two in the rear? Enough to level it out. If I don't like it, then I will lower it with a DJM 3/5 kit. For now I would just lo like to level it out. Lot of other things to do and they all cost lots of money lol. Where to start first? Thanks for any help.
If there is a block in the rear, take it out or replace it with whatever size you like. Be aware that you may not have bump stops if they are built into the stock block.
Thanks Squeak, That willl work as long as it isn't more than 1 or 2 inches. I haven't gotten under it yet to see how big they are, Too bad someone else doesn't chime in that has done this and left the front stock height.
I had a look at the block. The one I am looking at is under the leaf springs. IIRC it has a bolt going through the center of it. It would drop it just about right. The block is curved to sit around the top of the axle. If I remove the blocks, what keeps the leaf springs in place. They will just sit flat on the axle with no problem?
It shouldn't be a bolt, but an alignment pin so the block/springs stay in the same spot on the axle. If you pull the block there will be a pin in the leaf pack that will line up the spot on the axle to keep it aligned.
The block should be flat on both sides and a perch is welded onto the axle to provide a flat surface with a locating pin to match the block which has a locating pin to hold the springs. I replaced my F350 blocks with F250 blocks to lower the rear end 2 inches. It worked very well. The rear bumper of course will drop more than whatever you get from the block drop since it is farther aft.
The only bugger is the rear sway bar links are now too long. They still work but aren't vertical anymore.
In theory, you should also consider raising the carrier bearing on the driveshaft as well as shock length. I haven't messed with either.
