Not sure but it seems turbine housings have been back-ordered for some time now. Even a few months ago I coudl not find a 1.15 for a gt42. The only places that had them were the big ricer places like Himi and that was at full price $400. I ended up getting a used one from placing a WTB post in the performance classified on here. Might want to try that.
I run one with stage 2 and a 6 speed and tow all the time from 10,000 all the way up to 35,000. with it. I know when pulling a hill i have a little lower egt's.
I never had any surge when I lived it ca. Now liveing up at 5,500 feet I used to get surge with the 1.0 at about 15 to 20 pounds of boost. with the 1.15 It's all gone.
Csipsd, how did the 1.0 housing work with the stg 2s? Any turbo surge? Fully loaded, truck and trailer, I'm about 20k, looking at stg 1 or 2 (casserly's), and I don't think my stock turbo is gonna like it! Any advice?
I had lots of surge with the 38R and the 1.00 housing, but I also run 37's and at the time 3.73 gears. I think that had alot to do with moving the surge line to a place I ended up being in all the time.
With the 1.15 housing, no surge, no noise, no issues. Clean clear boost...LOL
A 99+ van housing will also fit, but same thing, the turbine wheel is smaller than the van wheel. I ran a van housing on a 38r and didn't notice much, if any, difference than the correct 38r housing. It was just slow street driving, though.
38r/1.0. I've got 3.73s and 33 bfgs. I'm wondering if there is any advantage/disadvantages to a 1.0 vs a 1.15 housing with the stg1 or2 injectors. I don't want to loose 1500 rpm spoolup just to get more power at 3000 rpm
You will not loose any spool up with the CORRECT 1.15 housing.
With bigger injectors it makes it even better. Lower drive pressures, lower boost, lower EGT's and more power. There is not one down side to a 1.15 housing on the 38R...
So long as you are not throwing a Van housing on there and then talking about it... Its not the right housing.
Thanks for the info. Guess I'm looking for a 38r with a 1.15 housing. I saw one listed this am but I was too slow, story of my life. Can u recommend any special brand of housing ? I've got a family member that can help me out rebuilding a turbo so I wouldn't mind finding a used one if its not beat all to hell.
This is a 1.15 housing that we can get, see what you guys can find on this part number to make sure it will fit, will still obviously need the adapter plate. Garrett part #700213-003
