I should check in and log my junk. last fall bought my 1st Ford 2006 F350 CC SB lariat. Had lots of OBS GMs and a few dodges. put a 12v in my last chev 1997 CCLB drw. fun truck on 22" alcoas. got tired of it, yarded the drivetrain. parted out the truck and bought the SD. it came with 6" lift and 35" procomps. clean truck, low miles, got a warrantee engine in 2008. confirmed that with the dealer. good start.
So one of the other mechanics at work flopped the spare service truck in the ditch. 2006 F450. body wrecked, service body wrecked. chassis good. I bought the rolling chassis from work after it was parted out. 55,000kms on it when ditched. practically new.
the 12v I've had for a long time. bought the 1995 2500 dodge truck that it was in few years back. gutted that truck pretty quick. put the 12v in my '97 Chev that was fun for a few years.
the old albino rhino rocked the cummins for a while. good times.
got the nice SD. basically new Super60 and Dana110 4.30 ratio truetrac rear. and the hotrodded 12v. have ordered some custom rims to convert to single wheel on the dually hubs. 20x11" rims. need to nail down some rubber. looking for 335/80r20 XZL michelins or MPT81 Continentals, same size.
Diffs and suspension are getting done asap. well when I get time. the destroke will happen sometime after warrantee runs out on the engine in Sept 2011.
could not for the life of me, find 335 XZLs or a reasonable priced MPT81. So I nailed down a set of 80% 37/13.5r20 toyo MTs for it. should be fine for the meantime. goal to be done suspension and diffs by end of Jan. or sooner.
Dreamed of doing something similar for quite a while, looking forward to your progress. Seems those axles should be pretty good setup, specially that front with the super sharp steering.
because the truck exudes pure awesomeness, and when my cabover gets a work up, I want some of the sex to rub off on mine.
if you've got anymore pics or specs on it, by all means hit me up with them. I just found this and a couple other pics in a for sale add last year I think. and I've seen 1 short youtube clip with it and a polished trailer making a pass down the track.
went and picked up the tires and new 20x11 rims to SRW the F450 diffs. quick pick of the deep dish rear. was cold and blizzardy out, more pics to come though.
Glad you didn't take it as a dig at you, or me starting anything! That truck sold to a guy on the west coast a few months back, I believe he is up in Washington. Sadly, a car getting on the highway didn't pay attention when merging and hit him, driving him across a lane of traffic and into the right side concrete wall. Curled the front of the cab back, and did some good damage to it. Not too sure if it is a total loss or not. Definitely a slick ride! I'll try to scrounge up some pics of it. And, as much as I like my w900's, the Cali style freightliner cabovers have a soft spot in my heart.
Right on. I'd put up a pic of my COE buts its not worthy, still in full OEM work trim but its got tight sleeper and damn long wheelbase just like that one.
who am I kidding Im' a picture whore. This'll be a whole build thread on its own. its a C12 13speed right now with 4.30 rears. But I'm a HD mechanic for the Detroit/Allison dealer here so I can get my hands on a Series60 and a HT755 Allison and regear the diffs. and crank that baby up.
as its sits right now, 601,000 miles on it.
I got the headlight buckets out of this one to convert the headlights to older rounds. Just a little cutting and riveting.
sounds like a sweet build! Are you going to sell the 6L and the 2006 SD axles I take it? What are you going to run for trans factory 2006 tranny behind the 12V and what all is done to your 12V?
I used to be a diesel tech for a local trucking company also..always wanted to be a part of a old school 359 Pete build with a big 475 or 550 CAT/ 18 speed...gotta love the stretched out rigs
you bet the 6.0L and diffs will be sold out. I'll have no use for them. I was going to use the built 47rh I've got behind the 12v right now. but I've recently been leaning towards sticking with the 5r110 thats in it. the 12v has lots of fuel and air...... :evil
I'd suggest doing a little research on this decision before spending money to go with the 5r110. Its a great trans behind the 6.0 but has yet to be proven to hold any of the torque a cummins puts out. Give a call or PM the guys at Bean's Diesel who have done a bunch of conversions and a couple failed 5r110's behind the cummins, also Rich (unbroken) was looking into that route and ended up going with the built dodge trans.
Plus you already got the build dodge trans and it'll be something like $1200-$1600 for the trans adapter and PCS controller to make the 5r110 work.
Cabover project looks like a blast too, looking forward to seeing how it comes out.
That'll look pretty good with the square bumper, round buckets and that roof fairing deleted lol. I'd like to get my hands on a small bunk cabover, bout 200" wheelbase, low low air leaf Pete cut offs in the rear, and car hauler axle up front, smaller on 255 rubber. Black, with dual 7's up the back of the cab, chrome grille and bumper. I'd rock a 430 detroit and 10 speed with 3.70 rears since that should provide ample fuel mileage and pulling power for what I'd want it for!
well the front is sitting on the super60 with 37" toyos. its substantially bigger now. like 12" wider overall. there is a fender situation that needs to be cleared up before driving. cutout flares for 100% sure. and maybe 2" - 3" more lift as well. rear D110 will go down tommorrow.
