Spent about 30-minutes in the shop today installing the 6000k 55w HID system I ordered from Retro Solutions. Man those are cool. Super nice setup, all plug and play. And after driving home tonight in a blizzard, I'd have to say that's the best $150 I've spent since the dpf delete. These things are great. I'll post my install pics in the morning...
My truck didn't come with factory fogs, but I've got a connection on the harness and lights so I can install them. Probably end up doing that here shortly.
One wire has to be run to the battery, then there is a ground for each ballast, everything else has factory plugs to connect right up. Honeslty took 25-30 minutes to do it all. Very nice wiring harness...
Are yours hi and low beam? I got a cheap set of hi/low 5000k deals (they're the sucky electro-mechanical hi/low so it just moves the bulb) for $50, kind of wish I just spent the money on a good set with a real hi/low setup.
I have the same set as Jacob and i love them, the only problem i have is the right side doesnt come on all the time, but i think i figured out why today, after the cab is back on my truck ill report if it fixed it.
Here is a pic from inside the cab, they make standard headlights look like they arent even there, a guy at work was parked next to me and he turned his lights on and you honestly could not tell they were on. (05 duramax)
If/when you do fogs too, is there a way to keep the fogs on when you put your brights on so you're not having to keep shutting down and powering up the fogs? I hear that wears HIDs out real fast.
Look great!!! What color is the lights, look pure white...Thats what i'm looking for, don't want yellow or blue......doesn't seem to bad to install...i have a 2002 CC 4x4..would be great for dark mountain roads i hunt on....rsbhunter
They are a 6000k light which has a hint of blue in it, if you want pure white either go 5000k or 5500k i think mine are the perfect balance of white and blue, i cant get a good picture of how they look from the outside but they arent too blue, they look just like a factory lexus/cadilac light
Mine are hte 6k lights as well, I believe it's a pretty good balance between white and blue. Just bright clear usuable light. I'll post up a pic showing my new view of the road...
Depends if you want bi xenons. With bixenon about 260. W/o i think 230ish. Worth it to get bi. Just go on their web site. They are a sponsor on here psn discount.
I have been doing some research as well and I CAN say that the Retro kits seem much better put together with wiring and such vs. The $50 dollar kits that make you cut and splice.
ive seen the cheaper kits, they ahve to hard wire them in.
also sometimes one takes longer to come on then the other, for some reason its worse when the temp is down outside.
If you have any luck like i do, its always cheaper and easier to do it one time.
I have retro's 6000k 55w heads and fogs love them! They are bright and light the road up i can't even run the fogs all the time it will blind oncoming traffic and a word of advise i got mine before last winter and started having problems in the summer it turned out that most of the connections were rusted up inside the plugs they don't seal good and the wiring harnesses are not warranteed! It cost like $25 for new harnesses which is not bad so i changed them out and packed all the connections with die-electric grease hopefully that will help! But i would not give them up after having them!

So I have to ask. I know the HID kit that was in my truck burnt the relay. I was going to get a new one but really would rather spend the money and just pull everything and redo everything my way and right. I normally jsut do the DDM tuning kits. Never had problems but this time for the Hi/Lows I want to do it right.
DO THE BI-XENON really help? I know with the hi/low mechanicals I had they didn't do crap highbeam I always used lows and fogs. But if bi-xenon work better i'll do those and wire up the fogs to work all the time.
So people with bi-xenon are the highbeams really that much better and adjustable. If no im just gonna stick to my horrible wiring ones here right now and leave my low beams. If not i'll try to find a real set of bi-xenon ones and wire it up.
They seam pretty legit to me, it seams like it works just like a regular halogen bulb. Maybe someone can post pictures for you of the difference between high and low beam. the cab is still off my truck otherwise i would do it for you, IF no one has posted pictures by wednesday i should be able to help.
The retro bi-xenon's high and low beam are the same 55w filament it just tilts up for the high beam it's no brighter like a normal halogen bulb and the lifetime warranty on these is for the ballasts and bulbs not wiring.
Chris
all the bixenon kits just pull the bulb back out of the reflector for a high beam.
my ebay kit works great and i can tell a big difference in my highs and lows. i did wire the fogs to stay on all the time though. when the fogs use to cut off with the high beams they really werent that much brighter but now that they stay on it makes it much brighter with all 4 bulbs burning
