So I'm looking to get into a 7.3 excursion. Found one today, its a 2000 ex limited 4x4 with 196k. The thing has been very well taken care of. There is some play/slop in the steering. No leakes anywhere. There does not seem to be any droop in the front suspension. Carfax is good. Two owners. The dealership is asking 13900. Does that seem about right? They are known around here for very fair pricing. Any input would be great!
seems pretty good from what i saw while shopping in Houston. Not sure how prices flucuate from here to there though. We had trouble finding one under 15k in decent shape. We ended up geting a 2wd 2001 for 9500.. didn't really need 4x4 though.
I paid 12,700 this past May for a 2000 Ex. XLT 4x4 with 155K, it was advertised for 13,900. I was at the dealer for a few hours nitpicking and talking them down
That seems really good I've been scowering all the big city's craigslist and the seems just as good a price as I've found. All the ones I found that I liked that were under 100k miles were all $20 k + I'd jump on it!
(I also only want an 02-03 with 7.3 so I can have the good headlights and digital odometer and updated gauge cluster with limited package)
ya thats about average for the mileage that ive been finding it might be worth it to have one that clean I just haven't gotten the wife talked into to it just yet! (I keep showing her wrecked pics of these new plastic vehicles, told her the benefits of being able to interchange parts between my truck and an ex, and the benefits of being able to lift body off the chassis and she doesn't care lol)
Also Utah is not far away I'm in Denver but for the right vehicle I don't care about distance I could fly in and drive it home or take the superduty and trailer and go get it!
Damn that's a nice excursion! Looks like I might have to travel to find what I want. If that rig was around here they would be askin' 30k and they would get it.
I paid 13,500 on Craigslist 6 months ago in Minnesota for my 2000 Ex with 113,000 miles on it.... I wathced everyday for months to find it..... The cheap ones come around but not very often. Replaced breaks, shocks. I just added the nerf bars, bull bar, and stainless handles. Good Luck!
all the issues you stated in with that X it likely had at 50K miles if not brand new. Some of the very first things every X need to have done. Is V/B code spring swap. New shocks all the way around. Super Duty rear sway bar addition. If the steerin box is loose do nto even bother tighting the lash order a Redhead steering box and replace it.
Swap out the tiny winy windshield and rear wiper with 24" and 18" units.
Replace the rear lift gate struts with the extend version to prevent having to get stitches in the back of your head.
Remove the useless roof rack cross bars before they ruin the paint any worse by rubbing when pressed down from the wind.
Do you have part numbers for the lift gate struts?
How do you remove the roof rack cross bars? I've loosened them and slid them back and forth but they did seem like they wanted to be removed without breaking?
You slide them all the way out the end once you have loosened the clamp. It been a long time but I think you have to press a tab on the rail for them to slide by and off.
For the strut what you are actually doing is swapping out eh 4x4 model strut for the 2x4 model strut. The $X$ fvor whatever reason likely ride hieght used a shorter strut so the 5' soccer mom would be bale to close ti without having to get a ladder. Issue is if you are over 5'8" you will bang you head if you are not careful. Not to mention for whatever reason those short ones seem to wear out quicker. The lift gate is heavy so be ready for that when you pull them and go to mount the new ones.
Here is the Ford part number: YC3Z-78406A10-AA check out Rockauto for the part as they are usually much better pricing.
Now if you are tall like 6'2" up you may do better ordering a custom one made. The ford ones are not as strong as I like as I said they do seem to wear out as that gate is HEAVY.
You can have a custom one made. The max length it can be and not contact the roof edge is 16.5" @ stock height this puts the open bottom edge at 7' so plenty of room and with the strap there you can grab it unless you are a couple inches under 6'.
Here is a few thread you will find helpful on the subject.
There is soooooo much info on just about any possible question between the 2-4 major forums if you have the time to do some searching.
Here is one in Raleigh, NC. I know the lady that owns it. She runs a diesel performance shop and it has been well taken care of. 2000 FORD EXCURSION 7.3L DIESEL
I just got mine last year paid a premium for it 2002 limited with only 55K miles and was still bone stock at the time. Paid 25K for it but the thing was in perfect condition with good service records.
I just bought a 2002 Ex Limited Ultimate 7.3PSD, every option from Ford, regulated return, hutch, harpoon, DP F5, V & modded F springs, 150,000 miles for $13,000 from the original owner.
$5k is nuts. Good job!
