I have a fabtech 8in lift. I am puting in and i put the new pitman arm on and torqued the nut and there is play in it. i had it torqued so tight i didnt think i was ever going to get the nut off but i did barely with a 3ft pipe... So than i put the old pitman arm on and torqued it and it did the same thing. I cleanded all the theads and splines. Should i buy a new nut for it?
oh hell yea there should be a big thick lock washer under the nut. should have been on there from the factory, are you sure it didnt fly off when you originally took the nut off?
I just went to my shop and looked everywhere and i cant find it. i really looked at the splines and they look perfect i thought. Do you know were i could get the washer online?
Ok i feel kinda retarted now! The shop is dark and i dont have a lift but anyway. the play is inside the gearbox that a bearing is bad and the seal is too because the powersteering fluid is almost empty... so i have to buy one anyway i guess now.
Its is not worth it. The ford gear boxs SUCK in general. Get a new box. Better yet if you want to not have to possibly go thru a couple to get one that is not loose right out of the box spend a bit more and go with a redhead brand box unit.
Does redhead make boxes for the 05+ trucks? Its been years since I hbave looked I just know they didn't before
Any chance you can add these lock washers to an 05+ truck. My pitman arm has worked loose twice, last time we put a bunch of red lock tight on it and it lasted a while but came loose about a month back.
I have a question. My pitman arm wouldnt go all the way up. There is about 3/8-1/2 inch of a gap from to top of the pitman arm to the bottom of the steering box. Is this normal? I could not tighten the pitman arm bolt anymore. I tightened it with a 6 foot 1 inch drive rachet. Got to be very tight. The pitman arm does not have any play up and down or side to side. It does not come loose wither. Is this ok?
Thanks man. Didn't want to buy or change a steering box right now
