Hey guy I have a 6 Inch lift on my 2001 350. Im looking to make ladder bars. I was wondering if I could get so ideas of what size pipe ect. How long should they be for my lift? Measurement is a plus. I don’t just want one single bar looking for this style.
Make them with a shackle front link to allow them to follow your leaf spring travel arc.
For length it depends on your truck config is it a short bed CC LB SC LB etc?
You could start by roughly the length of the drive shaft. how you set them up with change how you want the rear end to act. In general you want a balanced setup. So longer is better. Set the shackle mount so the shackle is 90 degrees to the top ladder bar.
I assume you have found that ladder bars are best for your usage?
I have a long bed crew cad. I'm just driving on the road and towing here and there. I think i could make easier ones but i like the look of those. Do you know a round about price for materials and What size pipe/tubing?
there are "standard" length measurements, for stock all the way up to 10"+ of lift. you would have to call a shop that sells and/or installs ladder bars and find out what that length is. in general, i think if you get up by the front of the drive shaft, you'll be fine.
you will spend $200 on a set that will work, $300 on a set that will work good, and $400+ on a set that will work right. materials wise, most ppl use 2" .250 wall dom round tubing, with the inserts for their choice of ends. ill prolly use 2" square tubing, easier for me to work with. inserts can be gotten from here, Ballistic Joints & Bushings among other places. in them links i provided, shackle angle, instant center, and general info are provided. as for length thats vehicle specific, talk to a shop for that. in them links are a pic of dpp's bars installed. very good guidelines for a diy approach. is what its supposed to look like, if you go with that style.
