im guessing with a torque spec like that, this is on the pinion only, carrier out and no gear oil? I am just wanting to replace a leaking pinion seal, wonder how I should proceed?
have you ever done gear set up before?
if not i would STRONGLY recomend at least having someone there that knows how, seting pinion depth, backlash and what not is not something you want to guess, or "try" at, it needs to be right the first time
With the truck in neutral and tires chocked, check for any radial movement of the yoke, there should be none. Match-mark the pinion and nut, remove and replace seal (lube the lip of the seal) being sure to silicone the splines and loctite the threads before reassembly. Tighten nut and go 1/8" past your match-marks made previously. Be sure to check the vent.
Post #3 (the OP's second post) says he is wanting to replace a leaking pinion seal. There are way too many details to get into without a page long post, this procedure will work for any rear end and works just fine for 90+% of people.
but i still stand by my statement of it only being close and not perfect
