I have this box with the ####tiest sub in the world. I just replaced an old Jensen 300 watt amp (pushing MAYBE 50 watts total to the sub) with a Power Acoustic 1250 watt amp and hooked it up but it still sounds like butthole. very punchy, not deep at all. My question is, instead of getting a new sub AND box, can I replace this Jensen sub with a nice shallow mount 12" and get good bass or will I need to get a new box as well?
looks like u need to create some room between the sub and the seat or put a grill over the sub, with it bouncing off the back of ur seat its createing some horrible sound
Could be blown or on its way out from hitting the seat like that, think of how valves and pistons are when they contact something, behind the cone of a sub is essentially a piston with the coil and motor. So if the cone or surround is hitting something it can cause the coil to start hitting inside instead of moving up and down as it should in a linier fashion.
Now onto the good stuff. A shallow mount should fit in there with no problems. Although you may want to think about recessing it into the box, all depending on your wood working skills though. Or if it matters, you could give me the outer dimensions and I could calculate what you have for internal air space and mounting depth to give you a good dea of what can work in that box.

the existing box is 20" wide, 15" tall, and 5" deep at the top and 7" deep at the bottom. if i need to get a bigger one I can but if this will work then that would be good.
Lift your back seat 3", and put a box under there....I built one for my buddy....it down fired and hit hard as HELL!!!!
Everyone seems to put them behind the seat...with minor modification...you can lift the seat and fit almost anything...or modify it to bring the seat forward a couple inches...either way....
its really crammed up against the seat. if you look in the first pic, you can see the ring imprint on the back of the seat. even with the seat pulled away, it still sounds like butthole though. hoping a new sub will do the trick
how safe is that? just curious it looks like a loss of some structural integrity, if a passenger was sitting on my crew cab bench and I had a wreck would be my concern.
I guess you may have a point, it may just appear to be less safe than it actually is.
