My '08 F450 has been running a little ruff, so I gave the guy's at Rudy's a call. After a lot of back and fourth conversations I took it up there and this is what they found. I expected it to be a lot, but I never dreamed it would be this bad.
When I get it back it will have new short block, head studs, EGR delete, and a set of TOW power twins. Hopefully I can get another 128,000 miles out of it before this happens again. Someone let me know if I missed anything.
Looked like the water pump started coming apart from being over rev'd. It took about 3.5 gallons to get it up there from Atlanta. Another shop that was local for me was saying HG. Aaron was saying water pump. I have met him at the races, and spoke with him about this truck already. I figured the best thing was too go ahead and take it up ther for him to figure out.
We are looking into replacing the final drives with 4:10 gears. 75 is really top speed in this thing, and The last two drivers that driven this truck are in the unemployment line now, because of their work ethics. I'm sure this was the combination that took it out.
Glad we could help you out Aron, Water pump cavitated took the front cover out with it and killed the motor...Tappets on rockers were toast, cam has some nice groves on it, when we pulled the valve cover we could barley see the injector lines! I definitely have never seen a motor in that bad of a shape.
I thought I heard of some one taking out every other propeller blade on the water pump to stop this from happing. Any one else heard of this? Cause correct me if I am wrong but doesn't this water pump just move way to much water?
I bet if you had the crankcase vented to atmosphere it may have save the mess in the intake tract. I imagine the turbos and intercooler are toast or need thourough cleaning.
Anything that has oil running through it is done. IC probably just needs to be cleaned. I have plenty of stock IC's laying around I will just throw one in rather than spending time to clean all that crap out.
I have seen about 7 of are ambulances that are 450's with front cover issues i think its cavatation but also i think some of it is the castings. I have had a couple trucks with around 9k miles that the front covers were eatin out!
