so i am gettig ready for a new build, not a diesel not even a truck, we build choppers and diferent bike parts, since my accident i have been debating a trike,so i got a silly idea, after riding a brothers boss hoss v/8 bike i want to build a trike v/8 powered with out giving everything away, its definitly unique, low slung short chopper trike gonna be powered by an alum caddy northstar engine so heres my question, can it feasably be done to take this engine and convert it to air cooled, purely for aesthitic(spelling)reaSons, cant figure out a way to take a ugly rad and hide it,i know for short burst 1/4 mile at a time alcohol does it,i just cant see this being afordable for long trips or even across town for that matter, well i just wanted to get some input.
im thinking the aluminum motor, in the open air it might be alright but i dont want to start it up just to blow it up,been planing this for the past four years, and just ordered the tubing to jig up the frame so ive got to get serious now.
well thanks for putting up with my dumb questions, and for the input too
whats wrong with running a radiator? alot of the ones i saw at sturgis had sweet custom radiators and some had nitrous on a 502 why you need that much power is beyond me but i suppose if i had the money lol

YOu would have to heat sink the whole block and even at that i dont think you would be able to dissapate all the heat generated in that big chunk of aluminum. I just dont see any way possible to do it. maybe someone else will. One idea i have is to integrate the cooling system into the frame. using the tubing as you lines and pump the water through them to a rad but is going to require a decent sized rad though. Wish i could be more help but that is all i have for now.
right this is exactly what i was thinking too, just wanted some input. i have nt seen those boss hoss trikes though, looks good just too dressed for my tastes. i guess ill be finding a way to hide a radiator then. as soon as work starts ill get some pics up see what you guys think.
I'm just throwing this out there without fully thinking this through (and it is also 6 am.) Could you hide an A/C setup that would essentially blow through a "heater core"? You'd still have to hide a condenser but I feel that would be easier to conceal. With a much lower temperature blowing through what I'm gonna call a "heater core" you should be able to keep it's size relatively small.
This is only an idea as I vision it but with some careful planning and engineering I feel I could make this work. The good thing is it will be self generated with no need of injectables, etc.
That engine won't last for long without a radiator. Go drain the water out of your truck and run it for awhile and see what happens. Running the water trhough the frame tubing sounds like a nice idea, but do you really want a 210 degree frame rail next to your legs?
yep you are right, i had considered running the water through the frame rails, but i think we came up with an ingenious way of hiding it. as soon as the tubing gets here will get it in the jig and start posting pics, this will be the first non-harley ive ever built for myself, but hopefully itll be fun and stir some excitment, for the new shop were trying to get going. problems gonna be, the style stuff i do may not be main stream cool. i was "old school" when it was new school.
real bikes are built not bought, like i always say it aint a chopper if you aint chopped it.
anyone can go spend 18grand for a bike, but that dont make you a biker.
oh yea and for my brother, chrome wont get ya home, but itll d@*n sure get ya laid
yea man lets se some pics, ill have to scan some on this puter, ive got everything from a 56 panhead, to custom chopper, couple chopped up jap bikes too, and still have the very first BIG BOY bike i bought a old tri bonneville.
heck we just came up with a new thread topic?
