02 crewcab needs new tires. Has some Dayton 285's on it now.Looking for something all terrain but not too aggressive. Load E. Was thinking about BFG ATKO's or Michelin AT's. Anything else I sould look at?
I'm looking at Dick Cepek F-C II's. Only a D in 285/75-16 but you only lose 100 lbs/tire over the 265/75-16 in a E for weight ratings.
I would stay away from BFG AT's. I have never seen a set last more than 30K on a diesel, even with decent driving and religious rotations
Truck has a 285 on it now and I am staying with a 285. Im not partial to any brand just looking for opinions. I need something this week though. Tires are shot
i had those and i hated them when they got about half wore out, my truck has firestone at on it e rated. they are about 30% left in them i most likely buy another set.
I agree about the BFGs if you don't get off road; they're a little noisy and not particularly good in the wet. On the road I much prefer the Terra Grapplers and Open Country ATs, great street manners but still somewhat offroad capable and look decent. Had some Michelins a while back, were basically just big street tires. Next I'd like to try some MT ATZs.

May also look at some of the new Coopers I have heard great things about them off road, but the Nitto's are probably the best value if it stays on the blacktop.
After running 2 sets of Michelins, and one set of BFG A/T's, I went to Goodyear Workhorse. Mine are 265/75R16E. I think they have them in 285 as well. They look alot like the old snowtire design, but not nearly as loud. Works well for towing, and seem to be wearing well. I've only got around 8k on them. Traction in snow is pretty good, there are some better tires out there in that respect, but I haven't gotten stuck yet with them. Just need to use your head a bit. 4 of them set me back $600, at my price. Cheap compared to what some of you guys run, plus, IIRC, they're at least North American made.
BFG AT's! I worked at a Discount Auto Tire and put these tires on many trucks, they last..have a warranty and are very strong and quiet. Also maybe 2 other suggestions for price is the Cooper LTZ or the Kumho KL-78. Also great tires. Do not go with NITTO!!! They do not last at all
LOL the discounttire hear won't let you put BFGs on a diesel cuz they don't last. I have had to set of Nittos from discount and they where great. But they where back order for 2 months so I got the Toyo ATs and they are pretty close to the same as Nittos.
Ok. Mixed reviews here. I can get a smokin deal on the Firestone destination at. I want something that will last and fairly quiet. I looked at some kumho and they are a little aggressive. I have firsthand experience with the bfg and they last buy I hear they are not good in the rain. Any other suggestions? Thanks
I just picked up a set of these to run for deer season and winter tires... Seem to have pretty good ratings and dont break the bank.. Getting them put on my 16's this weekend and can post up a few pics...
I have been looking at tires for the last month around here and have not seen anything local that competes with that. I might have to order a set of those, thanks for the link.
I will not go anywhere that tells me what I can or can not put on my truck. I had a set of the BFG ATs on my truck that lasted over 40,000 miles but they sucked in mud, snow, etc.
check out Treadwright.com....... I've run 3 sets of their tires..... Tons of miles(over 180k) with one flat that was more than likely my fault, they covered it. I have wheeled my cclb way harder than it should be, and tow plenty. My Excursion will be getting some new shoes from them for X-mas
I used to work for Firestone and I know the bridgestones were great. Is the new revo at2 out yet? I own a garage and can get about any tire I want just trying to get some opinions. Thanks for all the input sofar.
Not sure why some folks have bad luck with the Terra Grapplers. Maybe it has something to do with the size vs weight of the truck, or ??? I had a set of 305/55/20 on my X, took them off at ~45K to replace with a larger tire, and would estimate they had another 10K in them with safe tread depth. Most remarkable thing I noticed about them was the rain/wet performance, very good at resisting hydroplaning.
Im running and do like my 285/75 16R Load E Nitto Terra Grapplers... Great wet road performance, quiet, not too rough a ride, good in snow, decent in mud but do clog up quickly.
