hey guys i have a 99 f350 dually thats black, im wanting to completely black it out. i was going to have my bumpers, grille, wheels, and exhaust tip powder coated, or should i just spray paint them myself? what would last longer and look better? and how would i go about having all my lights blacked out? is there a way you can do that yourself or do you have to buy new lenses?
thanks for any information or help you guys can give me.
Powder coating will last longer and you can black the lights out with Night Shades by VTC... I think that's who makes it. You can get it from Advanced Auto Parts.
yeah i was thinking that powder coating would last a lot longer. is it very hard to smoke out or black out your own head lights? or any special ways to go about use the nightshades paint? im not sure yet if i am going to smoke all the lights or black them all out. will just putting some light coats on the head lights dim them out a lot? and sorry for all the questions but i appreciate the help!
the nightshades stuff is really easy to use. on my tails i did four light coats. inbetween coats i wet sanded them with 1500 grit sand paper. after the last coat of nightshades i put a coat of clear coat on them. looks great
its very easy to spray your own with VHT Nighshade. and you can buy the rattle can at any auto parts store. I did my stockers just for fun. I sprayed about 3 coats of nightshade then 3 coats of clear coat. They look pretty good. The key is to spray light, even coats. Your not spray painting a raw material. You dont even have to sand them down either, just clean them up.
I dont have any pictures of mine. but they look almost identical to super08duty's. i didnt go very dark other wise they are hard to see and night and I didnt want somebody to rearend me
Also, know that some inspection shops will not pass you if your lights are sprayed. Certain shops around here will take bribes but im sure other states are more strict then others. Cops down here hate VHT'd lights. If theyre too dark you'll get a ticket. They say theres a 1000 foot rule. which means if they cant see your brake lights 1000ft back then theyre too dark. If your wanting to darken them i wouldnt go darker then the lights i posted. Those are also for sale btw.
