Hey everyone, ive been doing as much reasearch as i can ( at work) and am somewhat confused about this swap. I understand you can use the 05-07 crossmember, steering box, coil buckets, and link arms to mount the coil suspension to the 99-04. The radius arms mount with the stock brackets off the 05-07 with some hole drilling correct?. So in theory i could buy the BDS 8" lift for the 05-07 which will then replace the stock link brackets giving me all 05-07 coil conversion kit while running the wider 05-07 axle.
recap- install crossmember, coil bucket, steering box, (factory 05-07) links and link brackets, then remove the old links and brackets while utilizing their mounting positions for the new BDS 4link mounts. The rear is all compatible. Why is there no one else doing this??
fabtech makes a kit that gets rid of the stock leafs and gives some realy nice coilovers and all brackets save yourself the headache and get the fabtech it bolts right in
Full traction makes a really nice bolt on, but they both utilize the stock front axle. And with out huge wheel spacers i will still rub the 15.50 tires on the links. The 05 axles are 1.5"wider outside the links
There have been quite a few 99-04s to go to the 05+ front axle. Just not real common due to the cost of the conversion unless you can come up with all the parts fairly cheaply.
Yep some get a full front clip that was cut to do it. That is the cheapest way as it comes with everything and you can pick off what you need and have the setup right in front of you. Brakes steering box etc. You still need to shorten the front drive shaft IIRC. It is the best way as the 05 axle has better brakes steering box axle is wider, better turning radius. Then if you want add a coil over to it.
I actually ended up gettin an 05 axle for dirt cheap then did the dynatrac hub conversion and put 4.30 gears in it. I have quite little into it is why im going this route. My main question is, when you put a 4link kit on like the 8" BDS for 05-07 do the new link mounts mount on the frame in the same place as the stock mounts from 05. I had planned on putting all the 05 stock links and mounts on simply to get the holes drilled in the fram where the BDS mounts will then take over for the stock.
I saw on here where a guy used all the factory ford 05 parts and did the swap onto his 99-04. I guess i could do mine exactly like he did his then just put the BDS lift on in place of it.
IMO which is not coming from first hand doing this I would say the last choice woudl be best. That way you are at the same starting point unless going straight to the BDS in combo will save you significant money. I assume that is why you want to do it that way. I would call BDS and ask them. Or look at their instruction if they can be had online from thier site.
took it in to get aligned and guess what.... they couldn't align it because my new $1000 front end need $1098 worth of ball joints and seals!!!! WTF my 2k swap is looking to be a 4k swap
That's including an alignment, for the $400 in labor they are charging ,I'll just work today as an overtime shift and let them deal with it. I'm not certain how to do :shrug:it or what tools I need anyways. So its a wash
