Hey guys my 06 f250 was in a wreck and someone bought it fixed the body up and now trying to sell it for 8k my insurance gave me 29K for the truck. I have a few ? about a cummins swap.
1. would the motor mounts be the same? if not what wood need to be done? (04 cummins motor i was looking to do this w/)
2. can I use the stock tranny on the ford w/o replacing any parts
3. what would be the cost to do this?
well need, custom motor mounts, 300 to 700 depending on what ones you go with. or fab up your own custom set.... stock tranny will work but youll need an adapter plate....700, custom flywheel,,300 or so...stand alone pcs trans controller..bout 850..... not to mention either drivline lenghth changes or electric fans to keep the drivline forward enough to keep stock driveshaft length. cost around 3800 for a swap kit that comes with all this for about 4000. then youll have to do all the labor.... comes out to quite a bit.... but prolly worth it in the end. Im actually in the proccess of swaping a 12v into my 2000 excursion but havent made a hard desision on wether im going with a nv4500 5 speed or a 4r100. once i make up my mind ill start buyin parts. i have the 12v built to the hilt ready for it just need to make up my mind and make some more change.
like the fella posted about, give beans disel a call they carry all the stuff to make it happen or better yet call destroked (these are the parts beans diesel sells)
lots of people recommend Destroked over ford cummins
Ull be in it a lot, adds up once you figure out everything n labor cost. Also I'd advise if you look into your state laws in swapping motors, some states will let you swap but you have the swap a motor the same year as your truck or newer. So if you have an 06 you might have to find an 06 cummins better look into it, then find out you can't get it inspected etc Just a thought for folks.
The year plays a big role. Not all 24v common rail use can systems to send data. Could make for some issues their as well. VP44 24v might be simpler as those are very standalone-ish. Their ecm doesn't control anything but the motor with only a few inputs from driver (throttle peddle, park neutral, key and constant voltage etc)
As mentioned before, conversions are big bucks. Expect to pay a lot especially if your having someone else do the work
