I just did a front wheel bearing replacement and tire rotation on my 2003 F250. Everything went fine until I went to take it for a test ride. The truck just felt "loose" Like at any minute it was going to loose control. I drove a little further and everything seemed stable. When I turned around to come home I noticed a popping noise from the rear when I went from Drive to Reverse and back again. Just for background the front tires that are now on the back had some noticeable "feathering" and more tread than the rear. I don't know if the feathering or the change in height of the rear tires is binding the u-joints or what? Any help is appreciated!!!!
I checked all the lugnuts and everything is tight. I double checked the hubs again as I just put in new wheel bearings on both sides and the hub nut is still torqued at the recommended 24 in/lbs but there is some play in the wheel/hub when I push/pull on the top and bottom of the tire. I think the upper ball joints are getting loose. My question is will the worn ball joints cause a shimmy or "chatter" when I go over pot holes. I think the front shocks are worn out as well because when I bounce the front end and let go it will continue bouncing three or four more times before it settles. I also noticed on the tires that just came off the front that the wear pattern is saw toothed across the treads and it looks like every other lug is worn down more than the next. Any ideas???
BAD SHOCKS if it looks like every other lug is warm then the tire is basically skipping down the road
