backhoe or loader works good, set it up so the chain hooks at the bottom of the bucket with a shackle etc. and then you can use the hydraulics to push the bucket down and lift the back hoe up as you run the test hook, pretty close to a real sled.
A tractor works the best IMO, Pull it in neutral and get the tractor driver to keep adding more brake to "add weight"
