I posted about my oil pan ( pan seems ok once grime was removed, CCV is causing the rear oil I believe)as well as the frt & rear main seals leaking. I was told the motor needs to come out(or cut out cross member) for both. It seams like the is enough pan clearance to drop it enough to replace the seals atleast. Please enlighten me as to the feasability. I do have a 10K post lift so raising the body is possible. I plan on installing a 2011 clip in the spring so i was hoping to put it off till then.
If the CCV is causing the seals to leak, it is not clear. There is some kind of restriction in it. If you build up Crankcase Pressure, it is going to defeat a seal. Fix the restriction and you may cure your leak.
The guy I bought my truck from said they replaced the front main and I highly doubt that they pulled the engine. Also my mech is putting a clutch in Big D this week and he wants to do the rear main while the tranny is down. Makes me think that you dont need to pull it for the rear main either.
Thanks for the insight guys. As to the CCV, I've read many posts on here how it can leak down the back of the block over the starter area. Well I have alot of wetness in that area. So that was where the CCV thought came from. I REALLY hate oil leaks!!!!
On the wear sleeve, throw it in the oven and get it hot. It expands the metal and slides on relly easy. After it cools it is tight as it should be. Clean the shaft first with some fine emory cloth while the sleeve is getting hot.
I found the right size cup in a ball joint press kit to install the wear sleeve on the damper. Getting the old one off requires a grinder and finesse
I second the closer look at the oil leak on the back side. Also, while not a common problem, it might be a good idea to feel around under the oil rail end plugs both front and back to see if they might be leaking.
Front main = pull as much #### out from in front of the motor until you're comfortable. The hardest part is the radiator and the rest is easy so my vote is just remove it all so you have easy access to it.
