im hopin the it is going to be worth the money for 850 i couldent help but see what happens with it any body with any experience with it other than what every bodys read in diesel power mag.
read last months diesel power mag about it. its essentially the same as a d66 dont bash me for saying that its what i was told and explained too by the guys at comp turbo the user 97rattle box is the guy that wrote the artical in the magazine and he seems too like it alot he says cleans up smoke very well and droped egts it is suposet to support up 450 hp to the wheels so i decided to check it out and give it a try.
yes and it also has compreser wheels similar to the gt38r is what i was told along with journel bearings it has stock exuaste housing i asked if i should run a smaller housing he recomended that i give it a try how it is because all testing was done on a/r 1.15 and if i didnt like it try smaller. no mods direct bolt it 4 bolts oil feed and return thats it i am suposed to get itt in the mail either fri or mon so either day i will be putting it in as soon as i get it because my stocker is toast. yea i was itchin too and for the price customer service and a 1 year warentee i couldent turn it down and i jus figured somin diffrent why not give it a try.
Just in case anyone else is wondering, it is NOT a 66mm inducer. It's a stock sized 59.8 but it has 6 long blades and 6 shorts so it's like a WW with an extra blade. The exducer size is 91mm. It also uses the factory compressor housing. What you get is a rebuilt stock turbo with a custom back plate to fit a larger compressor wheel exducer size and the wheel to match it. I can't speak to how well it performs because the unit I received had the backplate machined improperly and the compressor wheel contacted the compressor housing. It chirped as soon as I started it up. It's been returned for a refund. As a side note, Comp turbo's customer service in general, email returns and phone call returns just pretty much sucks(read nonexistent).
This is the dyno graph for the 1997 OBS truck that diesel power used to test the Comp TP38. With STG. 1's and ATS intercooler a fresh stock turbo and a Dieselsite fuel system it made 348HP and 776lbft.
Below with the Comp Turbo It only made 5 more HP and the Torque graph is absent for some reason.
Also the first graph is a scan of the actual dyno run, while the one below is computer generated.
I know the reviews have been mixed, I just wanted to point out the supposed "facts". YMMV
dzl jim if i have time i will i checked on it and its not suposed to be here untill mon you guys no how shipping bs is but i leave for ohio thursday and still have alot of other things to do but i will definately do that if i have time and i will defenetly let you guys know i will be driving the truck from virginia to lima ohio with a trailer with all the mods in my sig so it should be interesting and will put it to the test.
ok got the turbo droped today i had some shipping difficulties but all in all its a chore with a stock pedestal and first time doing it haha. i made a pretty decent write up with pics and when i have time after the move to lima ill try and post it up.
ok guys sory for such a wait of instal pics and how i feel bout the turbo and all but just finaly got internet in my dorm. but i do like the turbo alot it has very quick spool up the egts droped in-between 100 to 150 degrees depending on driving condition but it is a very fun little set up nice turbo for the price.
this is the wrench we made to get the 2 bottom bolts off the exuaste side
i didnt get to get as many pictures as i wanted from pulling the turbo bc i left my camera at home one day but still got some
those 2 back bolts behind the ebpv cylender p.o.s were pretty difucult
agian i didnt get to get pictures of the weld on the pedestal but u get the idea and didnt get any of the ebpv flap removal but i jus used a hand grinder and went to napa and got a freeze plug and threw that in.
well my previouse turbo was a stoker and its a nice drop on turbo alot beter than the stocker and it runs very strong. and hey if you realy want one i could prolly get you one its jus a 15 wrench bent in a few ways it took a lil while to get it jus rite
So can anyone give any insight comparing this with the d-66. I did an efuel on the truck and when I pulled the turbo there was a good bit of play(all directions) Are they the same or id the d-66 better quality? Bearings different? Flow?
Just need it to support 1's which it sounds like it will do easily, but longevity?
well suposed to be very similar to the d-66 i cant say its the same or any beter bc i wouldent know. but i do like it i wanted the d-66 but its a little more price frendly. but it does have the same 66 inducer and suposedly has exuaste side wheel similar to a 38r and it does have the 360 degree jornel bearing but 97 rattle box is the guy thats wrote the artical in diesel power so i would either get i believe the august diesel power mag or talk to him for beter specs than what i know and the comp turbo website is rather confusing so i would jus directly call them thats what i did there pretty nice people and i do not believe they are a vendor.
i may just have to get one of these this winter, it seems like a great turbo, for the money, basically same turbo as d66, but at a better price.
