Took it to bay town tonight, ran it 3 times, and did some data logging. Got some great data, but the tranny kept hanging on the 3-4 shift, and we would hit the rev limiter. Spent the day at Hellmanns, and made some changes to the pinion brake mount, took 1.5 inches off the rotor to reduce some of the rotational weight. Tried to get the sway bar on, but its gonna take some major work to get it on. The suspension is torquing hard when it launches, and twisting the suspension in the rear majorly. The motor is unbelievably strong, but its not gonna go to the track again publicly, till the sway bar, and all the bugs are worked out. We did have our best 60. 1.85, leaving soft, but by far not good.
the biggest problem we have been having is keeping the trans shifting. it shifts through the gears so fast that it just slips right through them. we only get about 15-20 runs out of a trans before all the clutches are smoked. i'm going to try something different with the clutches to see if we can get at least 25 runs out of one, lol....good luck with yours, sounds like things are coming together. sway bar really helps. after we put mine in it was like driving a different truck.
Are you using the direct clutch for the trans brake? That doesn't make sense your going through trannys that fast. Shawn has hundreds of runs on his tranny with twice the weight and 300 more horsepower and his is living at nearly the same speeds and slightly lower et's. My red truck has 60-70 passes on it, with close to 600 on 35's and 20's and its just now starting to slip at 121K. I think you have something going on other than just the shift speeds. Good luck figuring that out, it sounds expensive as hell. As far as the sway bar, I had no choice, since I saw Doug giving you guys chit for not having one, and he basically told me, I wasn't gonna get back in the truck again without a sway bar at TS. LOL
i believe the problem with the trans is that it is trying to shift so quick because the truck is half the weight of shawns. if you listen to my runs it is in overdrive before it hits the 1/8 mile mark. i believe its in 3rd before i hit 200ft. i really dont want to spend the money for a liberty trans. if i heard your runs right you are hitting the rev limiter because your trans wont shift. maybe you can tell me how you got some sponsors and i can talk to liberty and see if they want to help. when you start running faster you will find out what we have already. when we run no nos and fuel only the trans shifts normally. only when we put the power to it is when it says WTF are you doing to me..lol..it helps when you get parts for cost and can do all the work yourself. just one of the hurdles both of us will have to overcome when using a stock trans. good luck.

oh and even with dougs trans kit installed we only got about 30-35 runs out of it. that was the 2nd trans we had in it. eagle clutches seem to work alittle longer. i have 2 trans that we are using. that way i dont have any down time. i can have one built waiting to go in. we are working with suncoast now to try to resolve the problem. hopefully we can. plus i have some ideas we are going to try.
I don't have a stock trans. As far as sponsors, call them up, tell them what your doing, and see if they offer to help out. Have a good packet to send them, and do what you say your gonna do. Give them something worthwhile to invest their adv budget in. You have that!
In those runs, I am not using nitrous. If you watch them, you can see I hit it to spool. I turn on the bottle to get some in the lines, then turn off the bottle. It gives me enough to spool. That is all motor baby! LOL
We can adjust the shifts correctly, just need to know the approximate mph each shift his hitting. I believe we are getting calculated MPH in both of the Rangers, so it shouldn't be an issue. I actually command short shifts on my race truck to hit the correct mph on each shift. It has trouble keeping up as you make more power and also wheel spin causes issues.
Have you considered a PCS Tim? Had data logging capabilities and trans command. You change shift points one RPM at a time if you'd like. When were having troubles with hanging or shifting to soon we start making 25RPM changes till we find the sweet spot. Just couldn't get it done last time out, ran outta time
i havent been on in a while and somethings wroug with my computer and i cant watch video. that pick of it lauching is F###### awesome what ur best time ?:ford::bowfast:
Truck looks really good Tim. When I first saw pictures of the truck launch I thought it had a lot of frame twist. Sway Bar will be a nice touch to help control that. Hopefully you get the tranny worked out.
Talked to Eric about the tranny, and since the truck has no speed sensor, were gonna try some different things. Also the rev limiter is gonna be raised. We built it to turn some RPM's and were gonna use that. The Chris alston Chassis works sway bar was made out of billet, it looked a little anemic so I decided to go to this one. NOT anemic. LOL Chromeoly steel.
You building a desert truck or drag truck! Holy he!! That things mambo! Thought you were putting the truck on a diet? That sould get the job done tho
