Sleds a Arctic Cat M1000. It has a few goodies as is. I rode one last year and the torque of these things is just crazy from the factory! They just tractor through the snow. I'm gonna keep the mods simple with this one. Been down the mod sled road a few times before and it can take the fun outta riding in a hurry some trips. Just going for the fun-factor this time round.
First mod is a custom tunnel kit built by the VanAmburg crew:
I know a few guys on the board ride so I figured this would be a cool thread about a different type of project to throw up. I'll try and keep it updated as the build goes on.
Nothing to crazy. Probably just gonna run a pipe, can, fuel card, and nitrous this season. I wanna get used to the sled before I throw any boost at it. This will be my first cat.
That is going to be a badass sled, I looked at one of them last season I think it was and it was nasty. Ended up with a 2000 Polaris XCR800 which is fast enough to get myself is hairy situations lol. Good luck with the new ride, now it's time to start counting down to snow hahaha.
Skip all that pipe and nitrous and go right for the turbo. Start with pump gas at 4psi. You will love it. 4psi will put you around 220hp at elevation with small porting. I can ride mine all day at 4psi and keep up with race gas 800. I have had about 6 turbo sleds. Everything from TM6 to TM1000 at 18psi. I seem to alawys go back to a pump gas 1000. It seems like it's the right amount of power for "normal" riding.
Jacob, what sled you are going to be riding this winter? I'm torn on what to get next. I like 4 strokes in the sense of not worrying about fuel quality, and their reliability... I'd need to turbo it though, as a stock 4 stroke is a turd, and I don't care to own/ride a Yamaha...
Not sure what I'll ride this year. I fell in love with the newest model M8 sleds, the updated chassis work they've done for the 2010-11 models is awesome in deep snow conditions.
I did get to spend some time on the newest RMK chassis this last season and it's going to be a contender on any mountain or snow condition.
ah always wanted to get my hands on one of these bad boys! i see em here and there in indiana but around here it will snow 8 inches one day then be fifty degrees the next and i always figured i dont have the money to blow on something i cant use alot :/
little update. Motor is torn down. Havin some machine work done to compliment the new goods from D&D Comin along pretty well actually. Workin on getting tuning all figured out at this point. Hopin to meet up with the guys from Empire when the snow falls :evil
Gonna be a fun sled to ride once we get it dialed in
Man, that sounds like its gonna be a sick sled! My buddy has a 99ish 800 Mountain Cat, even though here we don't get much snow or have mountians LOL, but even though it was breaking down just about everyday it was a beast. I can't imagine riding a 1000.
I'd be riding a mild mod sled(whatever i could build with $7k) this winter, but i happened to buy a truck instead. I just couldn't justify building a sled that i only ride 1500-2000 miles a year(about 2 weeks usually).
It should go well. Riding is a job in the winter. I try and dedicate alot of time to getting out and having fun with it. When the snow leaves here, we usually head north into Canda to finish out the year.
Im curious, how do you install the VanAmburg tunnel? Do you just un-rivet the old tunnel and rivet the new one on? And how much lighter is it than the stock tunnel?
What kind of sled?? In most cases drill out old remove and rerivet new. IMHO if your looking to do this on a newer sled its not worth the $$$ for gains.
The one I water skip on is in WI. White ash is the lake name its actually my wifes family cabin but we are the only one that go up there. As far as I know it illegal in MN to water skip a snowmobile so that why we take them to WI. I have done it a few times at my parents cabin just out side Alexandria but my old man does take to kind to it as he thinks I'm pissing off all the old people that live on the lake. Plus I dont like dealing with DNR all that much.
