I have another thread where i stated that I took my chip out and put it in my buddies truck to convince him to get a chip and not a superchip, banks, diablo, etc etc.
This weekend I installed new tunes and a 38r. My buddy "nickrussell" FINALLY got a PHP chip. His truck is bone stock. No gauges, stock intake, stock exhaust :blah::blah: you get the point.
We just got off work and went to a backroad so he can see what his chip did. And to my surprise he outran me in every setting i had. Constantly pulling away from me. We were both launching in 4wd and I was launching at 10psi.
I can't let this happen... I'll be looking to get a fuel system and adrenaline soon. :evil And if he outruns me then, I'm gonna trade in for a Duramax ointlaugh:
It just bugs the sh!t out of me that just tunes on his is quicker than the 5k+ i've dumped in mine.
I'd like a little more time with the chip to get used to it and feel it out before i go and make changes. There definitely will be changes made though.
As for boost leaks, i don't hear any "different'' noises and i build boost good and consistently. I could easily make a boost leak detector if it comes to that.
I do set off a code easily though, I'm thinking its an oil issue but haven't had it checked yet. Would that defuel the truck?
Every truck is different, just as is every driver.(race him again)
If you get a D-Max,make sure you get EFI-Live with a Trans-Go-Jr.,egr stick delete and tie-rod sleeves.
I understand different trucks drive better than others, but they can't be "that" different. Could they? I've dumped a lot into my truck and his is an old beat up farm truck with tunes that's been to hell and back twice.
It will take a lot of courage to do that. I'm a PSD man and always will be, it just seems like every Duramax with EFI and a tranny kicks ass. And I don't like to have mine handed to me.
The problem with diagnosing the problem is my knowledge of the 7.3. I can take it apart and put it back together all day long, but when diagnosing problems, well that's a different story.
I don't know what to look for, where to look for it, and how to fix certain problems. I'm still learning and will eventually get there but all be go to hell if i pay someone else to d!ck with my truck.
Except for those guys in my sig, and thats still a long drive.
You may not notice the nose going down on your truck, I was using it as a figure of speach. Does it continue to pull hard passed 70mph? That's where my wht truck used to nose. That went away with syn oil and new tunes.
Check everything you can dude. Build/Buy gauges, fuel psi, hpo psi... Matt's tunes do great. I ran Bill's and Matt's back to back at the track and the times were identical. Nothing a tuner does will make up for poor fuel pressure, or oil pressure. Once your injectors are maxed out, that's it. What is different about the two trucks?? Year? Wheels/tires? Weight?
Do you remember me telling you the other day that the truck does not feel near as aggressive to me then it did when you came and got the PHP tunes from me?? It just did not seem to have the balls it did with the old tunes.
Now I am not saying anything is wrong with Matt's tunes at all. But I could tell a foog difference in it and I told you that then. Never dawned on me it could be an issue. Just figured it was the difference in Matt's and Bill's tuning.
I also told you your CEL was most likely an ICP code. I guess while you were here we should have throwed the computer on it just to check everything out.
it's been asked before but what is the cel on for? what is the code? if it's an icp code well there ya go..fuel is a problem but no/low oil=no/low fuel pressure injected into the cylinder..i'd say you have and hpop prob..of course depending on the code...
lol ya i like it a lot. better on 100 rather than 120 but that just comes with lack of power but it will come just got to get some extra money. i told him that it didnt run as good as it did with your tunes the day he got his chip reprogrammed.
Why not build some temporary gauges. It's cheap and foolproof. Tie your wastegate closed and your ebpv open, to eliminate those variables. Swap chips, anything you can do. But remember this... If you're not feeding your injectors high quality fuel and oil, they're not going to give their all, which isn't much in the first place.
Food for thought. My little bro's truck is ECSB. Feels quicker than my CCSB. Same tunes, less mods. I blame it on stockish size tires and wheels plus less weight and mileage, plus my billet TC. Unless I have some rpms, he can hang with me with a rolling start.
I agree, I only want him to check fuek psi because clogged pickups and bad pumps are always a possibility. Not so much the supply abilities of the stock system.
This is starting to really sound like a friends SD. I walked the dog on him the other day when we pulled on the highway. It was from a 5 MPH roll cause I always spin some from the start. I had over a truck lentgh on him. Guess it's time for us to check some stuff out on his to see why he is getting slower then me when he used to stay right next to me. Maybe AE is starting to look like it is going to be a need soon LOL
Is your scanner not communicating with the PCM. If not, check your cigeratte lighter fuse, it supplies power to the OBDII port.
Also, cheap parts store scanners won't work on our trucks.
