just hooked up the fuel presure guage in the 94...not sure whats going on..it was doing the same whith wooner...is this normal??..i would think it would fluctuate a little,...but not like this...
this video is from my phone so its kinda crummy,...but i let the engine slowly increase in rpms,..then reved it and let it idle at the end...
Not normal. I have heard of the fuel pressure apparatus needing to be cleaned. I would take the bowl apart and clean the entire thing out. You might have a bad fuel pump as well. Is yours still the stock mechanical....
yes still all completly stock..although it dosent feel like anything wrong durring normal driving...seems like it pulls hard and drives normal...would i notice anything while driving if the fuel pump is bad?
No, the injectors will still function, but you will be doing damage to them if it drops to low. International spec is 70 so anything below fords 60 is to low in my opinion. I remember my truck dropping to 10 at the track at full throttle and I didn't realize it until I actually happened to catch the fuel pressure reading once. I fixed the problem and it made one hell of an improvement. I say this because you may not notice it until it does the final damage. Cleaning the fuel bowl is free with the exception of a new filter, if it still does it then it may be time for a pump. Many are putting later model electric super duty pumps on but I don't know what is involved in that. Maybe an OBS guy will chime in with more info.
You have to remember you have a mech fuel pump that is driven off the cam. Tearing apart the fuel bowl and replacing parts on there will not fix it. Only way to fix it is to convert over to elec fuel.
good to know...thanks cb...someone told me i shouldnt leave the guage like that if i wanted it to last,..so now that i know the fuel pres. is good,..ill pull the guage
Isspro does sell a dampening unit that stops the flutter, some have tried installing a small orifice that also dampens the pulsations. A small needle valve closed almost shut will also reduce the pulsations.
What you're seeing is a slightly slowed-down representation of the pulsations that are actually happening in the fuel system. If you ran a snubber (preferably a needle valve as suggested above) you would see roughly the average of the pointer swings, which appears to be a bit on the low side (looks like your average is in the 40 psi range). Has the FPR been shimmed yet?
BTW - don't hesitate to give me a call with gauge issues, both of those gauges are prototype field test units that Dave was testing for us (and I ok'd leaving them in the truck when he traded).
^^An electric gauge is the problem the sensors read the pulsations of the pump thus the fluttering electric fuel is the only way to make it a 100 percent steady reading.
